Staff huddle and turn backs to avoid you, they eat and drink in front of you. 45-60mins to create a simple medium rare steak, Over cooked frozen food, meat was uneatable and could not chew. Ordered drinks with jug of water. Water never arrived. children's fish fingers became dried desiccated reconstructed breaded chicken sticks. Sticky toffee pudding was microwaved from frozen till it was a sticky mess on the plate. Ice cream was the lowest quality powdered ice cream you could get. Coffee machine was broken for 3 days so told to buy coffee from bar! Zero nutrition in the meal. Multiple complaints on the night we ate, most just walked out leaving the food as no genuine response from management and staff. Do not take children or expect a quality meal.
I'm surprised Secret Escapes allow this dump to be on their books! I thought they were meant to be selective. Rude and unhelpful front of desk staff. Shabby, grotty cramped rooms with furniture covered in stains. A bath barely big enough to fit a child. The worst was the food. Extremely over priced for tasteless, low quality, frozen microwaveable rubbish. The staff are more interested in laying tables for the morning than serving customers.
Looks nice from the outside, but stay away! Old, unfriendly staff (almost refused to help with heavy luggage as no lift in main building), stuffy, first room was size of a walk in closet with bed crammed in next to window and claustrophobic atmosphere, room change was done with much reluctance to a room that qualifies as such but was super old. They may have a couple of nice rooms in the main building, the rest is just old. The airport hotel I stayed in the previous night was better.
The location was lovely and the atmosphere was pleasant. However, I was disappointed with the limited menu options and the exorbitant prices. A simple burger and chips with a small side of slaw cost £19, while fish and chips also cost £19. The prices were far too high for the quality of the food. Even a basic glass of wine was almost ten pounds. Overall, the restaurant was overpriced and not worth the expense.
This setting is lovely. The interior is lively and well-executed. The service is fine. But the food is beyond dire. For insane prices, be prepared for the laziest, most pathetically underthought menu of your life. If this venue was situated in another country, you can't help but think they would hire a head chef who actually CARED about the food they served. For £19, you get a basic burger, with a stale bun and awful sweet relish For a similar price, you can get frozen fish chips The wine starts at £9 a glass, for dire plonk. Literally this place couldn't get worse. There are thousands of local producers that the owners could tap into for meat, fruit, fish, but no -let them eat burgers and fish and chips.
