To make matters worse, I had to wait 45 minutes for it to arrive. I should have taken the lack of cars in the parking lot as a warning. The hostess seemed put off when we asked to sit outside at one of the three available tables because she had to clean one. On a positive note, the view was lovely, and the fried shrimp was quite good. If you do decide to eat here, I recommend sticking to their fried regulars.
Sunday night at 6 PM and the restaurant isn't busy. The place has a quirky vibe that reminds me of an 80s seafood-themed restaurant. My server is friendly, and the food has its moments but feels a bit inconsistent. The gumbo is definitely a highlight. The hush puppies could have been great, but they were an hour old and chewy. The crab platter was enjoyable, but the shrimp and grits missed the mark—the grits were cold and seemed stale. They also don’t serve their bourbon drinks with single ice cubes, which I hadn't anticipated. Overall, it was just okay.
We made a stop on our way to Gulf Shores and decided to order just an appetizer, so we went for a cup of seafood gumbo. Before I describe it, I want to mention that we live nearby and have traveled to New Orleans many times to enjoy seafood, so we have a good understanding of what gumbo should be like. Unfortunately, this was not it! The bowls were packed to the brim with white rice, leaving no space for the gumbo itself. What little gumbo there was seemed more like brown flour gravy, and there was no okra to be found.
Everything was really good. I had grouper and shrimp fried and they were crunchy and seasoned very well. I also had the Cajun baked potato and it was great. The cole slaw was also good and I?m not a huge fan of cole slaw. My husband had steak, blackened grouper and shrimp. His food was also delicious. The waitress was amazing as well. I think her name is Dana.
Amazing seafood and steaks! Crawfish was great and so was the Chargrilled oysters. My wife had shrimp and grits.
