Hideaway Cafe - Spirit Lake

Went for breakfast over the weekend. Have not been there since the ownership change. Wow...just sad! The place was dirty, hadn't been vacuumed in awhile, crumbs on the chairs and tables, greasy/dusty fixtures. The food was not good. It used to be, but no longer. Hash browns were gummy and just repulsive. Chicken fried steak was the frozen, in the deep fryer type. Eggs were so overcooked, you needed a knife to get thru the yolk. No staff, only a cook, so service was exceptionally slow. Really upsetting. We try to support local merchants, however, this place won't be on the future list. YUK....

This restaurant has truly improved. The food is fantastic, thanks to the new chef and the recent upgrades to the kitchen. I will definitely return once the entrance gate is open. However, the service from the bartender, who also acted as our waitress, was lacking. We felt overlooked as she spent time on her phone, and the smell of cigarette smoke wafting in from the door was off-putting. Additionally, she wasn’t very friendly or helpful in directing us to the dining area.

I visited The Hideaway Cafe with my family, and despite our varying tastes, everyone was able to find something delicious for lunch. The service was quick and, most importantly, very friendly. I'm looking forward to returning. I highly recommend The Hideaway Cafe!

The cook personally took our order, and a few other staff members checked in to see if we needed anything. They even brought out water for our pup, which earned extra points in my book. As for the food, it was abundant and extremely delicious! I ordered the Cajun Chicken Fettuccine, which was fantastic—packed with chicken and vegetables, and the sauce was delightful. My husband had a burger, which he said was cooked to perfection, accompanied by homemade fries and a fresh salad with homemade dressing. If you're in the area, this is an excellent spot for lunch or dinner. Don't miss out!
