I planned our trip months in advance and knowing St Brides was a very small village, we were happy to read all of the great reviews for this place. I had even decided from the reviews what I wanted to try. After a long day of driving & exploring, we arrived for dinner at the Puffins Perch only to learn they ( the only restaurant in the area) were closed as the owners were gone to play "chase the ace" - something that is apparently quite popular in Newfoundland. Oh well, maybe next time.
We spent two nights in St. Brides, as we went to the Cape St. Mary's ecological reserve on two separate days. We therefore had two dinners and two breakfasts (had to be arranged in advance). Jonathan served us on all four occasions. We cannot say enough about how great the food was and how nice the welcome was. The cod and chips were simply outstanding. Breakfasts were made to order and were more than enough to tide us through most of the day. As a special treat, Jonathan gave us a small sample of cod tongues to taste. Interesting. Indeed, this is the only place in the charming town of St. Brides. I would imagine that many do not stay too long or likely are just passing through after Cape St. Mary's. It definitely is a place to stop for lunch or dinner, or even breakfast if staying overnight.
We were there the beginning of July for visited the St. Mary's Seabird, we passed by and just want to have some lunch and we don't expect too much about but the restaurant was surprised us. The Chicken Nuggets so tender and soft, french fries so crispy and the most delicious food dish is Salad, everything tastes so good.
We stopped here for lunch after visiting Cape St. Mary's. The service was good, as was the food. The fried fish was very good. The chowder was tasty, but not the best I've had in Newfoundland. Restaurant has free wifi.
