Everyone’s drinks were brought to table except mine i waited and in the end asked where it was then after the afternoon tea as we hadn’t seen the lady that served us for a while my husband asked another lady away from our table if the birthday plate could be brought out. she knew nothing about it and went off then came back and in front my daughter at the table said “all it is is a plate with a brownie on and happy birthday written, do you still want it?” I was so disappointed in what she said, how she said it and that it was infront of my daughter which ruined any gesture that would have been made so i said no and we left. Definitely not value for money or good service What was meant to be a special occasion disappointed. We have definitely had much better afternoon teas as well, not worth the money it cost.
We met up with friends for a pre Christmas lunch. Had a lovely meal and wine plus cocktails. Very good as usual and the waiter and Eaterie Manager were very attentive. Have been here for lunch earlier in the year and standards were very good. Can’t fault it. Will return.
Had a very pleasant , simple lunch here on Thursday. Parked the car and just walked in. Very good , in fact, excellent service ! We both had the Pickwick Pie with vegetables,a fair portion of meat, good pastry , hot with an extra little jug of gravy . My feeling was that it was what we wanted , slightly overpriced, but that was ok, because the atmosphere was good. My only niggle ..get rid of the 12% service charge..10%is always plenty and really we should only give what we want to give …not feel obliged to pay…….a lot extra !
Never had a bad experience here. On my fourth time visiting we opted for the £35 3 course meal. I have a gluten allergy (coeliac) and the waitress confidently told me which of the items I could have. Both my partner and I ordered chicken liver pate for start, which was delicious. I could have eaten it twice! Mine was served with gluten free toast and when served the waitress clearly indicated it was gluten free fab! For mains I’d opted for the pork belly, unfortunately it was sold out so they asked if I was happy for it to be swapped for a pork chop, which I was. It was delicious. Cleaned my plate. Very happy. My partner had a cod dish on a bed of risotto and also cleaned the plate. For desert my partner had the panna cotta and was very happy and amazingly I was offered a gluten free sticky toffee pudding, which wasn’t on the menu but is my absolute fav and I’d go here just for it! I loved every mouthful and the ice cream it comes with is delicious as well. As I was driving the drink I chose was a watermelon cooler. This was the only let down for me. It was extremely bitter and not to my taste at all. My partner was happy with his Bellini. Overall. Superb service, as always. Superb food, as always. I’m always shocked that this venue doesn’t have much higher reviews as one of the best places to eat in Bury St Edmunds imo. Cannot wait to visit again!
Decided to go for £35 3 course set menu early dinner 5 to 6pm. Having seen sample menu on line disappointed with menu offered. The starters and desserts were well presented and a good quality however the main course was not a good standard. The pork was very fatty and the potato was hard In places. Not happy to have a 12.5% service charge added to the bill and charged £4 for a bottle of water.
