Barbosa's - St. Joseph

I am so heartbroken! This is my hometown and I grew up on barbosas. It was my favorite. I moved away haven’t been here in maybe 20 years. I was in town and I came back tonight and introduced my family to my once beloved favorite Mexican restaurant. It was awful. The food was not like I remember. I know times change, food changes but this is definitely for the worst. My daughter is a vegetarian and didn’t even have meat and got hit with instant diarrhea as we were leaving town to head back to KC. You have to pay for salsa??? That’s additional??? Wow insane! The street tacos were bite size could have been an appetizer. The cheese dip was obviously from a can, prob from Costco. Again, heartbroken!!!! Unfortunately we will not be back

This place always has good food….but the service these past few years have been absolutely TERRIBLE. I’m a regular here and have frequented this place for probably over 20 years. The same lady that answers the phone always has a bad attitude and poor customer service. Tonight I ordered through DoorDash. I literally order the same thing every time I come to them. They don’t have an option for me to tailor my order on DoorDash and won’t add what asked to have added so I called to tell them this and yet she tells me to add it on DoorDash. They know exactly who I am and how often I’m there. There have been quite a few times that my order is wrong and yet I don’t bother them….yet they make me pay almost $4 over the phone just to add some cheese to my order. Then let the dasher walk out without the cheese even though I told her it was a DoorDash order. I understand they have a business to run and things cost money but this is super ridiculous considering they used to not be like this at all. I’m not sure if who I speak to is the owner or manager but I bet this is the last time they get my money again. I hate to say that because literally I LOVE their tacos but Taco Bell, Taco John’s, Abuelardos, the franchises that aren’t locally owned, don’t treat me like this way.

This is decent Mexican food. Not a lot to brag about. Lots of people are fanatical about the chips, but I think that's just because they are actually cooked in lard. They are ok, but nothing is complimentary. Where every other Mexican restaurant serves chips complimentary, you have to order any chips here separately. The red pork chili is pretty good. Not one of my first choices of places to eat, but I might eat here a time or two each year.

When I arrived an elderly man had fallen in the parking lot and the Fire department was there helping him. He had busted the back of his head open. When they asked him if he wanted to go to the hospital, he said he wanted to go inside and eat ?... THAT is how good Barbosa's food is!!!My Taco's were AMAZING ?I just HAD to share that crazy story ?

One thing that i like about Barbosa's is there is no strangers. You feel welcome as soon as you walk in.
