Tang Palace - St. Louis

Now, onto the food: it was absolutely delicious, featuring Shanghai and Cantonese styles that aren’t overly oily and are rich in umami flavors. One of my favorite dishes was the spicy cold chicken; it was bursting with flavor, uniquely spicy, and quite a treat to enjoy cold. The soft tofu with preserved eggs (also known as century eggs) made for an excellent appetizer or side dish, served cold. The braised pork belly and eggs were reminiscent of my mom’s home cooking – soft, tender, and sweet-salty. I haven’t tried Shanghai braised duck at other places before, but I really enjoyed its flavor; the duck was tender and soaked up the sauce beautifully. The garlic eggplant is a classic dish that completed our meal. Each dish paired perfectly with a steaming bowl of plain rice or could stand alone, as they aren’t too salty. Everything was served piping hot when we picked it up, which made for a lengthy 20-minute drive home, as all I wanted to do was dig in and try everything! In short, we will definitely be back for more! If not for the regular menu, we’d love to try their hotpot one day!

I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant because we’ve been craving the hotpot we enjoyed back in Canada. Unfortunately, we were turned away at the door, so we didn't get to experience the hotpot after all. It seems you can't wait for a table to become available.

I went for hot pot and found the location to be quite small inside. They were only offering takeout, which was a bit disappointing.

We had a frustrating experience with this restaurant. When we called to add an extra dish to our previous order, the owner scolded us over the phone. When we arrived to pick up our order, she expressed her irritation about how much trouble she had changing it and even waved the receipt at us, clearly upset about the two receipts involved. We felt uncomfortable and don’t want to be yelled at over a couple of pieces of paper, so we won’t be returning.
