Probably will come back for the environment, entertainment bar but definitely wasn't impressed with the food. Service wasn't great either all was over priced. My family I didn't finish even half of our meals. I got tacos with a single corn tortilla barely holding the taco together, couldn't even pick it up. My son got the kids fish sticks they were overly breaded. My boyfriend got the grouper sandwich I believe..with a mound of slaw on top soaking the sandwich. Nope!
Dr. BBQ's has been on my list, but I wanted the outdoor vibe so I went upstairs to the Tiki Bar; I didn't realize that it's more like 2 separate concepts with 2 different menus.. I was there on a Rays game day afternoon. The game was still going on so there were only 2 other people sitting in some of the comfy lounge seating that surrounds the bar. As expected, when the game ended there was a big rush and the poor bartender just couldn't handle it. She was older and a tad slow, but I don't know that any one person could handle multiple drink orders from 10 plus people at the same time. I really started to feel bad for her, as others did. I would hope that the business would normally try to staff another person for that obvious peak time! A lot of their tiki cocktails are pretty involved; there was one party that came in with I believe 5 or 6 people and they each ordered a different drink so that took a ton of time. The bartender was super nice and she did a good job of serving people in order as there were multiple groups around the bar waiting. Enjoying some of the lounge seating and being served was definitely NOT an option. Luckily I had placed a food order before the rush but then once I had finished I was left needing a box for well over 30 minutes.. I also likely would have ordered another beer if she just had the time to ask me. Speaking of food, the menu is small; more bar bites and appetizers. Even though I was by myself I splurged and got the Pu Pu Platter $32) so I could try a bunch of different things. I think someone from the kitchen brought it up and explained that they were out of some items, so they subbed some other things and really loaded it up for me. OK. So instead of crab rangoon I got chicken wings. Instead of the bao buns I got burnt ends puffy tacos I think made with the same dough). I still feel like I got my money's worth and I appreciated the subbed items BUT it was still disappointing. This seems like the most signature thing on the menu, definitely great for groups, with a nice presentation for social media photos.. so it seems like they should always have it available. After I got mine someone else tried to order one and they said they were out. Potentially miscommunication between the downstairs kitchen/staff and the upstairs Tiki Bar? Should they have just told me the same thing? The ribs were tough, everything else was pretty good. Next time I'm in the area I'll try the main BBQ restaurant instead. Overall I recommend a visit to this place. It has a nice vibe if you're looking for an outdoor spot for a drink and maybe some snacks. I think it's likely the closest bar to the Rays Stadium directly across from their main parking lot near Gate 6.. Apparently on non-game days they actually direct customers to park there. 2 tvs at the bar plus USB charging!
Sky is an amazing bartender who took the time to explain the various drinks to us and gave us excellent recommendations. The bar itself is fantastic, offering authentic recipes at affordable prices. If you're looking for a Tiki bar in St. Pete, this is the place to go. We tried the Bolo and Nui Nui cocktails and they were delicious.
This is my fave bar in tampa. Best cocktails with tiki flair. Very gourmet ingredients. Chill outdoor upstairs patio and they serve food inside.
