I was then seated at a slightly unstable table that sent glasses flying when touched. Soon after, a group of children approached me to take my order. I requested a steak and ale pie from the talented chef in the kitchen. A few moments later, a child brought out a plate and spun it multiple times before setting it in front of me. The pie had a peculiar smell, reminiscent of ocean algae - strangely appealing to me. As I bit into the pie, I encountered a tuft of fur that stuck to my teeth like wire. Despite this unexpected texture, I enjoyed the meal. The room seemed to sway, giving me a nostalgic feeling of sailing the seas in my youth. Had lunch here- chicken jalfrezi poor. Coffee tasted like instant coffee. Crumble topping tasted and looked undercooked.

The staff at this restaurant are friendly and provide good service, but unfortunately, the food is terrible. We were forced to eat here twice because we had no other options, but all four meals we had were unpleasant. The dishes tasted like microwave food. For example, the chargrilled chicken and Smokey bacon pasta were swimming in a creamy soup with tough, stewed chicken pieces floating in it. The restaurant definitely needs a new chef who has a better understanding of basic cooking and presentation.

We have been to The Clifford Arms a couple of times for drinks and have eaten there twice while passing through Great Haywood on our narrowboat. Our dogs are always welcome in the bar area, they serve an excellent pint of Landlord, have a nice food menu as well as specials board, and the locals are friendly. During our last visit, my husband felt that the chips were not as good as usual, possibly due to old fat causing them to be overdone on the outside and empty on the inside. Despite this, we have always enjoyed our meals and drinks there and will definitely return next time we are in the area.

Really good pub, staff and locals all very welcoming, great atmosphere. Six of us eating and everyone felt that they had a good choice on the menu and also enjoyed what they ordered. Specials board too. Helpful and speedy service for both meals and drinks. Spacious bar. Everyone was eating in the bar by preference as there was a good ambiance and banter.
