Arrived at the Windmill, the lady logged in to find our booking, which took a little while as the app kept logging her out, and it had ‘the longest ever password’ to log in her words not mine. Took our seats, and ordered our drinks via the app. After about 10 mins, the same lady asked if we were ok, we said we were waiting for drinks, she went back to the bar and retrieved our order and brought our drinks to us. Next round of drinks which again were order via the app arrived promptly. Next we ordered our mains. Medium rare 10oz stake, and a lasagna. Food arrived. Lasagna was very good. Not overpowered with tomato or garlic, very tasty. Hubby’s medium rare stake was overcooked making it a bit dry and lacking taste, but he didn’t want to wait for another to be cooked. Not once did anyone check with us how the meal was. During the meal we ordered another round of drinks, and waited patiently. The lack of drinks made a dry steak even less palatable. We finished the meals (well left half the steak) yet still no drinks. After 25 minutes I went to the bar to cancel the drinks and ask for a refund. After tapping many buttons, hey presto the order was located. There was much confusion over how to do a refund, and at one stage it was suggested that we may have to have cash and the staff member sort it later, but eventually it got sorted as a refund to the card. STILL NO ENQUIRY AS TO HOW THE MEALS WERE!!!!!! As much as I enjoyed the lasagna, I don’t think we will visit again. One member of staff was spending more time having a chat with the locals than checking on things. There were a lot of food orders being collected for delivery, I felt that these were being prioritised above the seated diners. I wish I could say the pub was busy, but it really wasn’t so there was no excuse.
We live close to windmill.decided treat ourselves for Sunday lunch as my husband as had a bug op and we were going on holiday the next day ..the Sunday dinner arrived.i poured cold gravy into my meal..the carrot and broccoli were cold..there was small amount potato which looked it it been warned up.the Yorkshire pudding was like floppy.the whole meal had been warned up...but not warned up enough.the cauliflower cheese.the cheese was warm.the cauliflower was like rubber .we sent the food back .good came back to us .it had been sort of warmed up u say in the microwave ..it was inedible.we had our money back...we were so so disappointed .u never complain.coukd not understand as we're were first customers...we were gutted as we live in walking distance to the windmill.we came home and had cheese on toast for dinner.
We booked at table for 2, but when we arrived there was no room and they refused to clean a table for us.
Food no complaints. However, this is CLEARLY a pub for the 'regulars '. Sat for a meal with my 90 year old grandmother and had to listen to 'effing this ' and 'effing that ' from one of the regulars sat at another table whilst EVERY SINGLE staff member carried on without a care in the world and even chatted to the vile mouthed man when serving him at rhe bar. Three other tables were visibly shocked at the way he was behaving and not a single staff member spoke to him about his loud, vile potty mouth. I rang to complain from the car park and simply got a 'Sorry mate,I 've been in the kitchen so I don 't know ' from a female staff member. If this is the kind of place where regulars (as the staff spoke to the vile mouthed mouth by first name) can behave like that without being challenged by the staff, then I 'd go and dine elsewhere.
Wonderful family meal, food was excellent, we had 2 Sunday dinners that were cooked to perfection. Thank you to all the team. Looking forward to visiting again and trying the rest of the menu. Keep up the great work. Chef even popped out to check what ice cream the kids wanted.
