I'll say the window air conditioning units are a bit of an eye sore, but if your back is to them then you won't even notice their presence. Now, let's talk about the food. The country style steak hits (almost) like your grandma's kitchen. The grilled chicken salads (chicken salad, too) are top notch. The crinkle fries could stand to be a bit crispier, but if you smother them in the homemade ranch or a Mayo/ketchup blend then they'll get the job done. If you want dessert, try the peach cobbler, it's never failed me. Now for the sad part...the green beans...oh man, they were the bane of my affliction today. Imagine Aunt Shirley smoking a Virgina slim and not being able to find her ash tray so she just puts out her cig in the pot of beans that have been simmering for hours (possibly days based on the texture). The taste from those green beans couldn't be washed away by water alone, thankfully they offer the wonderfully, delicious Tony's Ice-cream and that my friends, was able to wash the taste of potting soil flavored beans right off my agitated palate.
I had a wonderful meal at Friendly's! I ordered the spaghetti special along with a salad, and both were delicious and served promptly. The atmosphere and service were excellent as well!
If I could give zero stars, I definitely would. Friendly's restaurant is anything but friendly. I really wanted to enjoy this place since it's a local family-owned business, but unfortunately, the food was terrible and the staff was even worse! On a Sunday afternoon, the Sunday specials were anything but special. Charging $11 for a vegetable plate seems outrageous, especially when the food was barely edible. There wasn’t anything fresh on the menu. I ended up ordering broccoli casserole, squash casserole, and fried okra. Both casseroles were overwhelmed with a salty stuffing mix. The okra was mediocre and turned out to be the only thing I could tolerate. My meal included a drink, so I ordered a milk for my son and a water for myself. However, when I was checking out, I was informed that the milk would cost extra and couldn’t be included with my meal. I ended up spending $25 for a terrible meal that I could have easily prepared at home for my dogs. I really don't like leaving bad reviews, but the rudeness of the staff was hard to overlook. Never again!
The workers were so nice and considerate!!! Best place I've been for a while! Food was good and service was awesome!
I’m not sure why people seem to have such negative opinions about this place. My experience was quite pleasant. For those unfamiliar, Stanley is the epitome of a small town—just one road with a train passing through. So don’t expect a five-star, urban experience when you visit. With that in mind, I truly enjoyed my time at Friendly's. It had a wonderful charm and felt very welcoming. The staff were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to take care of us. The menu was straightforward, typical of a diner. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and French fries, and it was exactly what I needed. The fries were perfectly cooked with a satisfying crunch, and the grilled cheese was equally delightful and not greasy at all—a definite plus! The prices were fantastic; we got two meals and a drink for just $14, which is a great deal. If I ever find myself in town again, I would definitely return to try more items from the menu.
