We arrived at 5:30 for our 5:45 reservation, but even though our table was ready, we weren't seated until 5:45. It turned out that their happy hour was still going on until 6. We chose to sit outside by the creek, which was a lovely setting, but it got cold quickly once the sun went down. The happy hour drinks and food were fantastic, and we tried almost everything on the menu. When we tried to order two drinks from the happy hour menu, we were informed that they could only honor one round at happy hour pricing. We didn't mind, as the appetizers were delicious. However, when we decided to stay for dinner, we were disappointed. The food was cold, the flavors didn't pair well, and it took a long time to receive our food and even our receipts.
We had a lovely dining experience in the late afternoon. We were seated outdoors by the river under a shade screen. The tacos and nachos had tender meat and generous portions. The curry cauliflower was surprisingly delicious and one of the best dishes we have had in a long time. They offer great options for those with dietary restrictions, specifically gluten-free options. The service was great and we enjoyed a dinner meal.
Apps and drinks were great. Especially the cauliflower app. Not sure what happened when it came to the main coarse. We had 4 main coarses at the table and they were all terrible. The apps and drinks saved the review from a 1 star.
Wonderful anniversary dinner!! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
This was our first time at Aurum so it 's possible we just hit an off night or the head chef was not in the kitchen. Nevertheless, here goes. No problems with the friendly, competent service (Dakota . No problems at all with the attractive riverside setting. The problems, unfortunately, were with the food. Not the crispy, tasty duck wings appetizer (at $5/wing they ought to be good! . However, our entrees were disappointing. The wife 's wild mushroom ravioli (not so sure the mushrooms were wild was, to be kind, meh. Served barely at room temperature, the pasta was insipid, overcooked and under seasoned. My coq au vin was equally uninspired. Although mostly dark meat, the also under seasoned chicken leg was tough and virtually tasteless. It would not be a surprise if it had been sitting for a long while in the kitchen, waiting to be reheated. The dark wine sauce and (farmed mushrooms accompanying the chicken were the only tasty things on the plate. With its pretty setting Aurum would be a good choice for drinks during their until 6:00 happy hour, with an order of duck wings to accompany your beverage. But for superior cooking Primrose is a better bet. Oh, and we could have done nicely without the loud piped in music blaring from the outdoor speakers.
