This pub should be shut down. I'm unsure of their motive for charging outrageous prices for unidentified alcohol brands. They don't accept card or Apple Pay, which is inconvenient since most people don't carry cash. Additionally, customers are not allowed to use their phones or sing because they lack a music license. If a reputable brewery took over and served well-known brands and good food, it would be a highly profitable establishment.
Well I'll start of with the plus points bar staff excellent nice pint of stout. No card payment didn't dare ask for apple pay ordered 2 drinks then had to walk over the road to get cash back from Aldi after the the 10 minutes messing about arrive back to the pub to see the wife being told she couldn't look at her phone the lovely barmaid told my wife it was to encourage people to talk shame she didn't have her husband there to talk to he was to busy getting cash back because your in the dark ages thanks but no thanks won't be calling again
Had a lovely drink . After house hunting wanted to discuss properties we had viewed over a drink with family. All bar areas empty except for us . We did notice the no mobile phone or laptop notice but thought it was just for the main bar area so moved to another room so we could compare and remember where we had been by looking on our mobiles . At no time were we talking on our phones and would of stayed longer if we weren’t told to put our phones away. Disgusted and won’t be going back . No wonder the place was empty.
I had one hour to spare in between meetings and came to this pub to have a quick spot of lunch. First thing, chap behind the bar was exceptional and explained the local delicacy to me which is some sort of deep fried chicken dish. Ordered half a pint of splendid Sam Smith bitter accompanied by liver and onions. If I had to review this pub based on the food and the cleanliness of the lounge bar and the quality of the ale then it would be five stars. Why have I left one? I have left one because I was not allowed to have my iPad on the lunch table to read the newspaper and subsequently write up my meeting. Apparently there is an outright ban on laptops and tablets. This beggars belief given that I was the only person in the lounge bar today and while I am somewhat angry I hope that the landlord can take note of this comment and relax his rules so that he may get more clientele. Also a cash only policy rather than accepting cards was somewhat inconvenient for those that like to account for their business expenses through a card. I was happy to leave a tip recognising the super liver and onions, polite staff and great beers. Exceptional value.
