When arrived had no reference to our booking and were extremely busy so we couldn’t get a taxable. Waste of our time as we then had to find another venue to eat in. Which made our meal later and more expensive. Even though we had email confirmation would not give us a table.
Great place for lunch albeit rather busy. School holidays didn't help the feeling of chaos but I guess its nice to be in demand rather than contracting. The staff unfortunately seemed to be wilting under the heat both outdoors and in. Whilst food was great somewhat uncomfortable eating indoors and outdoors is near a busy road. If you come here when there is no heatwave I'm sure you will be fine.
Definately one of the better Toby's. Really cosy inn feel with plenty of outdoor seating. Good selection of meats as always and lovely selection of vegetables. My one issue is that they have far too many halogen lights in here which coupled with low ceilings and the large carvery area just makes this a bit uncomfortable during the current heatwave.
Yesterday, my wife, 3-year-old son, and I visited Toby Carvery Wolviston/Billingham for Sunday lunch. It was by far the worst dining experience I have ever had. Despite being recommended by friends, I wish we had not gone. The restaurant was extremely busy with long queues, but we were seated fairly quickly. After waiting in line for about 15 minutes, I finally reached the carvery. I opted for the King Size Sunday Lunch for an extra £1.49, which included an extra Yorkshire pudding, two sausages, and more meat. Unfortunately, the amount of meat I received was pitiful - one thin slice of gammon and one thin slice of beef, with a high fat and gristle content. The extra sausages were small and unappetizing. The Yorkshire puddings were large, but oily and tasteless. The roast potatoes, which I was looking forward to, were dull and barely edible. My wife also did not enjoy her meal. The only positives were that my son ate for free and there were free refills on Pepsi drinks. The service was minimal, with the waitress asking if everything was okay with our meal and bringing the bill. I usually tip, but the terrible food and lackluster service led me to skip it this time. The waitresses gave me dirty looks for not leaving a tip and one even tried to pressure a young girl into tipping with her parents' card. I will not be returning to this Toby Carvery and would not recommend it to anyone. I wish we had gone to KFC or McDonald's instead, as I was still hungry when we left. This experience was so disappointing that I wish there was an option for a 0-star review. Avoid this restaurant at all costs.
