The thick oatcakes at this restaurant were disappointing and not a good representation for visitors. They were not the beautiful thin oatcakes typically served. The quality of the oatcakes spoiled a traditional dish, but this was likely due to the supplier, not the restaurant itself.
I recently had lunch at this restaurant and found it to be quite basic. The oven-baked jacket potatoes seemed like they had been sitting for a while as the cheese had little flavor and the coleslaw was very disappointing. Despite it being a heritage weekend, the place was not very crowded. The service was quick, but the food seemed to be microwaved and of poor quality. There are plenty of other dining options in the area with much better quality. Additionally, the selection of low-sugar and non-carbonated soft drinks was lacking.
Nice tea but the café was really dirty, don't look under the table tops unless you want to be put off your lunch, was a strange ambiance but a welcome sit down the museum itself is really fab.
We visit here each week especially for their ham salad as it is fresh, plentiful and delicious! The place can get very busy and if there are groups in who have reserved tables then the salad appears smaller than if the place is quieter-other than...that the food is reasonably priced and the staff friendly and helpful and the cafe itself calm , quiet and relaxing
