The Crown Inn has recently relaunched as a Cafe, as well as a pub. The decor is lovely, they have managed to keep it as a ‘good old pub’ whilst creating a relaxing cafe space at the same time. We ate outside, which was no problem (we were seated inside and changed our minds and sat outside next to a children’s play area. Today I sampled the cooked breakfast, as did my son and my husband had the Crown full English (big! whilst they did some chips for my toddlers. The breakfast was honestly the best full English I’ve had in a long time. It was nice to have one that wasn’t cheap meat etc. The bacon was nice and thick, the sausages were lovely (I will be asking where they get them from! and the eggs were so tasty and fresh. Bread that came with it was yummy too. What I liked the most was that it wasn’t really greasy like a lot of fry ups can be. Now, besides the food being delicious, the service was great too. We felt very welcome (with twin toddlers we don’t always feel like we can relax and enjoy and on that basis alone we would return. The pub is spotless (including toilets and is clearly well looked after. The decor has lots of personal touches, which is perhaps how they managed to balance the pub and cafe look! My only issue is I want to try 5 different things on the menu! Great jobs guys, thank you!
I have been to the Crown Inn many times in the past, but this was my first visit since it transformed into the Crown Inn Café and Public House. The selection of cakes and pastries was mouth-watering, and there was a great variety of cooked breakfasts, including a vegetarian option, as well as hot and cold food choices. The new menu caters to even the pickiest eater, with something for everyone. On this visit, I only had a coffee and cake, but the aroma of a fellow diner's cooked breakfast made me regret not having more time to try it. I opted for the banana and toffee loaf cake, which was deliciously moist with flavors that complemented each other perfectly. The coffee was smooth and well-balanced, served in a generous size. The staff at The Crown Inn were welcoming and attentive, always ready to help. I will definitely return to sample more of the new menu and would highly recommend a visit.
Oh dear..... we had high hopes for this place but were very disappointed. Overheard the owner going on and on about a customer that had upset them without any thought to the customers currently in the restaurant. Food very average and cooking oil needed changing and tainted the food. other pubs in village much much better
Pleasant pub in a large Midland village. There is a substantial restaurant on one side of the premises but, despite this, it still very much has the feel of a wet led pub and that is no bad thing. It's the sort of place where locals, often accompanied by their dogs, drop in for just a drink. The food is very good, with all the pub favourites such as burgers and fish chips, plus a few more interesting dishes; prices about average for the area. We opted for burgers, an old favourite, and were not disappointed. On the bar, the ale offerings at the time of our visit were Butcombe and Adnams nothing wrong with these, but why no local ale? They also host occasional live music plus other community events.
