Gilly's Pubhouse - Stratford

This is a pleasant place to have a drink and unwind on the patio with our dog. The staff is welcoming, but there are certainly better options for pub food in Stratford. The food was rather average and would have benefited from more seasoning.

I've always loved the Fish and Chips here, so we decided to make the drive to enjoy them again. Before ordering, I asked the waiter if the fish was greasy, and he assured me it wasn't, which was reassuring as I'm currently dealing with some stomach issues. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the worst I've ever had. I tried to blot off the grease and even removed the batter to eat just the fish inside, but it was still unappetizing. I ended up leaving one piece, which was a special of the day. The fries were equally disappointing. When I mentioned this to the waiter, he simply responded with an "Oh, sorry." My husband also tried the fish and fries and completely agreed with my assessment. We were really let down. There was no offer of a discount or any gesture to make up for our experience, which was disappointing. They really need to reconsider their frying oil. I feel bad writing such a harsh review, but we spent a lot of money and barely ate any of the food!

Given the limited dining options in the area on weekends, combined with its proximity to the Avon Theatre, this restaurant appears to prioritize convenience over quality. If you're looking for a meal and it's open, you might choose to stop by, but don't expect much from the food, which is quite disappointing, especially considering the prices. I would happily pay more for better quality. Unfortunately, I encountered wilted greens, bland coleslaw that seemed a week old, and excessively salty batter, which really reflects poorly on the overall experience.

We had an amazing experience! The service was exceptional, and the food was incredibly tasty—definitely the best burger I've ever had! My friend ordered the fish and chips and was very impressed. The atmosphere is lively, the music is great, and the Bayer family has done an extraordinary job renovating this beloved restaurant, infusing it with their passion and care. I highly recommend you check it out! The Bayers will welcome you warmly, just as they did for us!

I've visited Gilly's several times now. My first experience wasn't ideal, but after discussing my concerns with the manager, he promptly addressed the issues. Since then, we've returned 3-4 times, and each visit has been wonderful. The Burger Thursdays are incredible, and the steak on the menu is superb. It's great to have a place in Stratford where the food is both outstanding and reasonably priced. If you're in Stratford, Gilly's is definitely worth checking out. Cheers to Gilly's for maintaining such excellent food, service, and atmosphere!
