Our server, Stacey was fabulous and made some suggestions based on a couple of allergies. The appetizers, Corn Soup and prosciutto and melon were full of flavour. Mains of Halibut and Short Ribs were cooked to perfection and the vegetables, sauces and garnishes worked very well together. For dessert we indulged in the Crème Caramel and Peach Melba. My only criticism of the whole experience was that the cake in the peach melba was a little dry.Overall great food, great service. It will be our go-to place next time we are in Stratford.
Simply the best place to eat in Stratford in the limited season they are open. Go before the end of September if you have a chance. Great food done with elegance and precision. You won’t be disappointed.Vegetarian options: They always have a creative and great tasting vegetarian option that will tempt carnivores as well.
Wonderful, memorable experience at The Prune. We were a group of 5, and every single dish was delicious and beautifully presented across the board. Flavors were outstanding, from the duck confit to the beef tartare and the salt cod croquette, each dish was well composed and balanced to let the ingredients shine. The crème caramel dessert was truly one of the best desserts I've had in recent memory the range of flavors (caramel with, unexpectedly, citrus and the differences in textures (caramel popcorn on top! combined to make for the perfect plated dessert to end the meal. The service was also exceptional. Our waitress, Rebecca, was very attentive and allowed us to have a leisurely meal at our own pace, which we always very much appreciate when getting together with friends and enjoying one another's company. The staff were always quick to ensure our wine and water glasses were topped off, and were very helpful with decanting a 2007 bottle that we brought for ourselves (for a corkage fee to enjoy at the end of the meal.Highly recommend The Prune for anyone looking for an all around exceptional meal!
The new location is AMAZING! Everything was Devine. Great space, food and service. Have the Duck Confit it’s is nationally recognized. Highly recommend make reservations!
After a matinee performance of “Monty Python’s Spamalot” in Stratford’s Avon Theatre, we joined our friends in a memorable meal at the city’s top restaurant, “The Prune”. Their award-winning chef was really on his game, starting with an “amuse bouche” for all of us. It was a crispy potato-based honeycomb cracker filled with whipped goat cheese, fresh peas and shoots as well as edible flowers. For my appetizer, three of us ordered “Rillettes of Foie Gras Duck served with mini rhubarb, mustard, pickled pearl onion and pistachio praline” with a very warm brioche bun. Exquisite. My main course was an East Asian-themed “Duck Confit with gai lan, Japanese yam, shiitake mushroom, lotus root, mirin and dashi butter sauce”. I have had duck confit dozens of times and this was the absolute best ever. The skin was so crisp and tasty and the meat underneath it was beyond tender and juicy, bordering on orgasmic. The accompanying elements were so perfectly prepared and complimentary to the duck. My choice of dessert was the “Passion Fruit Parfait” compiled with coconut brittle, passion fruit caramel sauce and coconut sorbet. A suitably light yet titillating way to finish the best restaurant meal I have had in a few years. If you are ever in Stratford to see a drama, a comedy, a musical or just want to sightsee this lovely town, make a point of reserving a table at The Prune. You will not regret it, I assure you. It is NOT inexpensive, but so very much worth every penny.
