My favorite Japanese place, Keisuke the chef makes excellent meals. Food is fresh, various options, quiet and quaint, great for dinner.
Having enjoyed sushi for nearly 20 years on both the East and West Coasts, I can confidently say that this is the best I've ever had. The seafood is incredibly fresh, and the sushi is prepared in a wonderfully creative manner. Additionally, the house salad is both delicious and unique.
If you're looking for an Americanized version of a Japanese restaurant, you might want to look elsewhere. However, if you're after an authentic Japanese dining experience, this is the place for you. Having lived in Japan, I've been disappointed by many establishments in Chicago that feel overly Americanized—until I discovered Sakuma. Finally, I found real Japanese food. While it is a bit pricier, it's worth it for fresh fish sourced right in the heart of the city. Many sushi places I've encountered serve fish that's two days old or older, and I can definitely tell the difference—I don't enjoy it at all. I've been to Sakuma countless times, and I've consistently received excellent service. You know you’re at a good spot when the majority of the clientele is Japanese. Enjoy your meal!
I discovered the best sushi in the northwest suburbs! Having previously lived in Lincoln Park, I can confidently say this is the freshest and highest quality sushi I've found since moving to Elgin. I've dined at over ten places in the area, and this one stands out.
