We had a great experience at this restaurant during our two-night stay. The full English breakfasts were hearty and made with excellent local ingredients. We were blown away by the superb dinners on both nights, and the chef even accommodated our special requests. We were very impressed with the high quality of the dishes and felt the menu offered good value for the price.
I had the pleasure of staying in Stonehouse for the night and was on the lookout for a restaurant with a hotel attached, so I could enjoy a glass of wine without worrying about driving. Traveling solo allows me to fully appreciate the meal and ambiance, and I was pleasantly surprised by the exceptional combination of dinner and accommodation at this establishment. The hotel, particularly the rooms in the main building, are charming and the restaurant is a hidden gem. My server was well-versed in the menu and wine selection. I started with the local pork terrine appetizer, accompanied by piccalilli, slices of rustic bread, and baby apples. The terrine was simply divine. The roasted duck breast that followed was cooked to perfection, and the cabbage and potato purée were equally delicious. A glass of Pinot noir from their impressive wine list complemented my meal perfectly. I was so reluctant to leave, but fortunately, breakfast was included with my room, allowing me to enjoy an excellent cooked breakfast the next morning. If you find yourself in Stonehouse, this restaurant and hotel are definitely worth a visit.
Having visited Stonehouse Court recently for afternoon tea, which we enjoyed, we decided to try the Sunday lunch. This was a big mistake! We were surprised to find that very few tables were occupied, and now know why. The staff are pleasant and helpful but service is slow even though the restaurant was more than half empty. The starters were very good and we looked forward to our main course of roast beef. This was a great disappointment. The meal came ready plated: there were only two tiny roast potatoes, small portion of beef hidden amongst a poor selection of vegetables and a Yorkshire pudding, but worst of all, the dish was soaked in the saltiest gravy I have ever tasted. There were no staff around to complain to until the Manager came to remove the plates. Asked if we enjoyed the meal we explained why we did not and he offered free desserts. I had a dessert, which was pleasant and my husband declined and had coffee. This is not a cheap lunch, three courses £23, and for this price the main course should be good.
Everything we ate was delicious. There was a great choice of wines. Also ate breakfast here. Again lots of choice of hot and cold food
