After several reliably awful experiences at this establishment I couldn’t be driven back by nutritional instincts if I was starving to death. Unpleasant servers consistently and continually turn out a compilation of misery from the kitchen to a packed audience of local diners, who are delighted no matter how creatively abstract one must be to deduce the mystery on their plate from what was described on the simple menu. I question the skill required to turn what one can only presume was at one point the necessary ingredients to formulate a typical culinary dish, into the inedible creations one sees leaving the kitchens caldrons. The best case to illustrate this is the chicken wings. Revered by the locals, what you will hear and see written is an antidotal story containing two phrases, “the best wings”, and the “Dog House”. This statement begins to better represent the nature in which its loyal patrons are unbending in their belief that the meagre pieces of tissue served in a first attempt at a sauce are somehow chickens wings. These pitiful scrapes of meat more resemble, if you had to guess and did not know, what you would expect newborn robins wings to look like, if you had ever seen one unfed and starving. These unpalatable toothpicks of impoverished meat would be embarrassing and a cause for concern of their origins if served at any other restaurant, however at the Dog House, they are celebrated as sacred, a local delicacy. The only circumstances from which I could excuse a diner or server from forming even the most mediocre reviews of the bland grey matter from which the kitchen reassures is nourishment, is if they spent a lifetime without even the most basic expectations of what palatable nutrition was. Which should make you suspicous as to how they manage to receive any good reviews, unless you take verbatim that you are eating a Pedigree type kibble in an actual canines house, then I assume it to be not bad. All this is to say, consider the weary traveler warned. Do not enter this strange establishment with any normal culinary expectations, but rather for its novel value as you gaze through the unfettering portal to an alternate universe in which the food they serve is considered appetizing, much less edible.
A week or so ago I was in this place with a colleague we ordered the lunch special, wings and chicken fingers with fries . The fries were the small crumbs from the bottom of the fryer basket the longest being an inch or so . A woman wearing a toque and winter coat came and looked at my meal and asked how It was and I told her the fries were no good . When she looked at them and asked what was wrong I suggested perhaps a job outside of food service industry would be suitable for her if she could not see the problem . The waitress came by and asked the same question and I told her the same thing and also told her she would NOT be receiving any gratuity as I expected her to bring me decent food . When leaving I was attacked at he cash by the toque lady and she offered me a paper advertising her competition 's restaurant She had this paper on hand and was ready with it when i arrived at the cash it leads me to believe these encounters must be a regular occurrence) telling me I was dirty and not allowed in her establishment again . I was in work clothes) I paid and left and as I was leaving she was yelling at a young girl to follow me out to the parking lot . with a camera ... I don 't know why ... anyway if you want short greasy fries and a fight its the place to go
The wings and onion rings were great, great place to watch a game, limited selection of beer and nachos were... well, not something this place is famous for. Service was quick and waitresses were friendly and attentive.
Been there many times. We drive past the Sudbury Dog House to go to the Azilda location. Service is fantastic and wings are always consistently excellent.!!
