OMG!!!! Absolutely fantastic food. The last review said pricey fir a sandwich. Well, you don't just get a sandwich, it includes crisps and a beautiful salad. All food coming out of the kitchen looked amazing. My mum had a brie and onion marmalade toastie. It came with a lovely salad and crisps. I ordered a savoury afternoon tea. It comprised of a cheese scone, amazingly fresh, a chuck of cheese, Stokes chilli jam, grapes, and a pot of tea which gave me three cups. My sister is vegetarian and had lots of choice from the menu. She plumped for avocado smash on sourdough with smoked salmonand loved it. Everything was brilliant. All bread was artisan breads and superbly fresh. Couldn't fault anything. Definitely be popping by very soon indeed. We even brought some cakes and cheese scones home as they all looked so amazing and they certainly didn't disappoint.
Today we had lunch at The Barn at Hasketon. We have been there many times before and really enjoy it every time. Today will be out last visit unless we hear of major improvements there. This is why… 1. The prices have gone up so much they have our prices themselves. £8.95 for some soup. £9.95 for a sandwich. And if you want tomato in your samebwich that will be another £1.60 yes £1.60 for a couple of slices of tomato!! If you want a luxury hot chocolate that will be additional 70p for cream, 60p for marshmallows! Want oat milk instead? That’s an extra 70p! I know prices of food have gone up but this is mad! 2. The service has gone way downhill. Staff are like deer in headlights when it’s busy, taking ages to serve, ages to clear tables, and a long time waiting for food. There seems to be no light atmosphere anymore which is such a shame because you used to be able to have a laugh with the servers. 3. This was the icing on the cake today. We always pick up a bottle of tap water for the table, and we were half way through drinking it when we saw mould! Yes there was MOULD in the bottle! We raised this with the staff but they really didn’t take this seriously enough. I’m sure it won’t harm us but to have mould in a water bottle at any restaurant/cafe is crazy! Someone did come back to us and apologise. And to say sorry they offered a small bottle of still water to take home with us. Wow! That’s not taking the mick at all is it. She then proceeded to say “don’t go reviewing us on Tripadvisor will you! People say some crazy things on there”. Hmmmm this made me want to write this review even more. So all in all it used to be great but process have gone up, whilst service has gone down. Followed by mould in a bottle and no one taking it seriously. Should I report to environmental health?
On 6th march 2023 I had the best ever toasted bacon sandwich. the toast was not too well done the bacon was perfectly cooked (exactly as i asked it to be done) with a vast quantity of brown sauce (another request). my coffee was super hot and stayed hot while eating my sandwich. Monday is the day to go....... Perfect. 10/10. Thank you
Visited for breakfast on a beautiful February sunny morning once wet seats and tables were wiped it was lovely to sit outside! Drinks came along ok, however our food took ages to come only to find one of our three 'meals ' didn 't : when I went in to ask about it the waitress said she 'd pointed out what we 'd ordered she didn 't, one of the three of us would have heard! As we 'd already waited so long, I then went back in to say that I 'd just eat half my husbands as couldn 't really wait any longer. I also felt I should mention that the food was very basic for the price, literally just two poached eggs on plain toast with zero presentation. I then had another staff member follow me out accusing me of being rude I wasn 't, only factual about the slow service, basic items for the price; she then went on to tell me she 'd paid over £140 for tapas in London, her husband was a hard working farmer and she was wealthy enough not to need to work there none of which was relevant to the issue I had had! Bizarre and such a shame as it used to be a lovely place to go!
