The tartar sauce is also excellent. Plus, you receive a generously sized slice of cod that has been perfectly fried and seasoned—it's absolutely delicious!
This was my second time visiting for lunch, and it was fantastic. The portions of cod, scallops, or shrimp are generous and delicious, but be sure to try the fries as well. Seniors and veterans are welcomed and receive a discount. The cleanliness is impressive, including the restrooms. I highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner; you won’t be disappointed. This is now my third visit, and I can't help but smile. The staff is friendly, and the service is excellent.
The cod, shrimp, and clam strips were served in generous portions and cooked perfectly—not overcooked at all, which made the clam strips particularly excellent. The restaurant has a relaxed vibe with its casual layout, featuring basket-style plates and plastic utensils, making it an easy spot to stop by without any hassle. I would definitely recommend it; it's much better than Captain D's since the food isn't greasy! However, I think it could use a bit more flavor in the batter. Offering Cajun seasoned fries or having local hot sauce or horseradish available on the tables would be a great addition. I really enjoyed the food because it was cooked just right, but it felt like it was missing something. I waited a full day before writing this review to figure it out, but I still can’t put my finger on it, so I guess I’ll just have to go back and try again!
This is some of the best fried fish I've ever had! The portions are generous, and the fish is perfectly fried—not overly battered or greasy (well, it is fried fish, so there's a little grease, but it's not excessive). It's served fresh and hot. The clam strips are just as impressive; unlike those found in many places that taste like slightly fishy, rubbery strips, these are firm, well-cooked, and perfectly battered. I can't recommend this place highly enough!
House of God is the best place for fish south of Boston, located off Trolley Road in Summerville, near Beverly. They are open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturdays from 11 a.m. onwards. I ordered the special of the day: cod, fries, coleslaw, and hush puppies for $14.95. I was very pleased with the service provided by Jordan. The piece of cod was impressive—it was large and delicious. I also opted to substitute an extra portion of fries for the coleslaw or potato salad.
