I guess I am torn between a only a good review and a great one. The hotel is very nice and staff members have all been friendly. It was our 20th wedding anniversary so I believe we got upgraded to a nicer room. We had a balcony view of the ski resort (no snow) and pool area. I think my gripe is the maintenance of the area. I know it’s an old hotel but the hot tub had missing grout in the tiles. The pool was not cleaned (tons of dead bugs, leaves, etc. all over). The elevator ride is rough. The tub is great. It’s one of those that is deep and water pressure is great too. If I were the designer I wouldn’t have put the shower turn on valve right under the shower head. That can be some very cold water at first. Although we had a great balcony view some of the pavers were either cracked or had chunks missing from them.Rooms: Unsure about other rooms but ours was nice. Bed is comfy.Walkability: There are shops close (including restaurants), so we hardly drove at all.Food drinks: Tab can add up fast.
In 40+ years of booking vacation homes I have never had an experience like this. I booked a house last October in person from the manager at the resort and received my confirmation They have called me twice now recently to tell me that the “rate has changed” from $1080 per night to $2,500 per night. What? No mention was ever made that the rate I was quoted was subjected to change. I have the printout from when I booked and also the booking email. They both show the confirmation number, the rate and the deposit paid. Zero mention anywhere that the rate isn’t final. I am so confused and have no idea why they are doing this. The worst part is, this is a trip to the jazz festival for my elderly mother that lost her husband last year and my autistic son that plays the saxophone. I’ve already spend $1,800 on nonrefundable tickets. If this gets cancelled it will break their hearts. This is hands down the worst experience I have ever had with a business. And in my current circumstances it will be rubbing salt into wounds.
Very disappointing stay! They promise a year round resort but it's not true! After the ski season they shut down many of the amenities for repairs and there is nothing there until the summer! To top it off, despite the resort being abandoned, I had a mix up on my business travel (I had to book the hotel and my work booked the flight). I was confused by the dates and booked the wrong dates! I got a no show bill and I explained my company wouldn't reimburse me! They said there was nothing they could do because I kept out other guest from their empty resort!Sad! Pathetic! Totally not nice people! Wouldn't bother to help! Not even Airbnb has been so unreasonable!I would recommend all conference goers to stay away! There are better conference locations this time of year! They didn't even do that good of a job with the conference! The food was consistently late! People were milling around all the time!Sad!Terrible resort.
We attended an event here and had a wonderful stay. Then I accidentally forgot my clothes in the closet. I remembered the clothes after we were 200 miles away. I called and spoke with Jackson, who handled every detail in getting my forgotten shirts and slacks back to me, checking with me along the process and never dropping the ball. That's when I knew I would always come back to the Sun Valley Inn. Thanks, Jackson!
