There were 8 of us looking for food after the National Art School post-grad show opening, and they had no problems in sitting us down and taking our orders. One of our party ably ordered various plates: agedashi tofu, gyoza, sushi rolls, edamame. Can't complain about any of the dishes. Two of the beers weren't cold enough but when asked were replaced right away. For casual and quick eating, this was a cut above the restaurants over on Oxford Street, and if you've got a craving for Japanese food, this will hit the spot.
Don 't let the humble, somewhat cramped setting fool you, this spot was the goods! One of the 'top 10 Japanese spots in Sydney ' I 've been meaning to hit up. The tuna nigiri was fresh, perfect texture. Karage was also damn near perfect. Quite large, just the right amount of ginger, super moist chunks of chicken, none a that tiny, overly battered crispy ****. Mainly white flesh. The first 'new ' sake on the menus first page was smooth, dry, and hot, just how I like it. Popcorn prawn (see photo) wasn 't done the crispy way but the cheesy way. I 'm not a fan but my restaurant buddy said it was his favourite dish. What reeeeally made me loose my **** was the Grilled Kingfish Cheeks. You couldn 't get a word out of me as I scraped every little delightful morsel out of the fishes head with my chopsticks. Simply amazing. So fresh, and so soft, being the best meat of almost fish and very under rated. You MUST order this dish if you make the right decision and try My Zakaya!
Loved it! We ordered:<br/ salmon nigiri: you only get two pieces just saying, but it was delicious and fresh salmon<br/ pork udon special: yum! Tasted a lot like okonomiyaki<br/ Tasmanian roll; lovely and fresh <br/ salmon tataki: this was my favorite, so tasty! <br/ All the food we had was fantastic and well priced. But I must say that the wait for food was reeeally long and it wasn't even that busy. Good for a casual night out
There are outdoor and indoor seatings to choose. It is nice to see outside in summer time. The carpaccio dishes are yummy with their dressing. They have daily special menu on the chalkboard too.
Super delicious food, no frills vibe at this restaurant and very reasonably priced.<br/ <br/ The grilled scallops are probably one of the most tasty things i have ever eaten.<br/ The sushi is so fresh and authentic.
