Too hot and stuff. Staff were good but sliw service. Food was good but very expensive and iver priced. Need fresh air. Wine was good. ,......,.......
The flavour of the cod was a bit lacking, the chips were a little dry and the crushed peas were peas that had been boiled and crushed (as the name suggests). What´s wrong with mushy peas (or call them puree of peas)?
We had the misfortune of dining from this restaurant in the evening twice during our short stay at the hotel purely out of convenience. The first time we ordered room service and ate a pizza, Marriott burger and chicken salad. All were sub standard. Chicken chewy, burger and bun charred and pizza hard (like one from the freezer) and lacking tomato sauce. Disappointing but I always expect quality to drop for the convenience of room service. The second time we went to the restaurant in person. We’re fans of seafood so figured that what with being by Swansea Bay and Swansea market (which sells excellent fish) this should be good in a reputable hotel restaurant with pictures of seafood on the walls. How wrong could we be. Scallop starters were overcooked and overpowered by pesto. My rib eye steak was served in several chunks, and cooked rare instead of medium (which I don’t mind) but it was over salted to the point I found myself trying to scrape away the salt. I have had worse steaks and was hungry so ate it anyway. I left the garnish of watercress as it looked like it had spent a few weeks at the back of the fridge. But the prize goes to my partner’s mussel and chorizo main course. This was nasty! She asked me if it smelled funny and I tasted a bit but it was so salty it was difficult for me to distinguish anything above the salty taste. This was until she discovered a foul ‘excrement’ smelling mussel in the pot. I would normally pay the bill and leave rather than causing a scene. But since mussels can cause food poisoning I felt something had to be said. I explained this but none the scene I feared slowly unfolded. The food was taken the chef who insisted it was fine, the waiter explained the mussels were fresh yesterday, another said they were fresh today. I even had to explain to a waiter how to identify if a mussel is alive before serving! The whole experience was cringe worthy to say the least. We weren’t charged for the dish or service but stopped our meal short and spent the evening worried we’d been poisoned. Luckily no sickness was experienced. Most worrying to me is the fact that the chef could not identify a bad mussel that smelled of s#%t. Other tables looked disappointed with their expensive food too. If you value your time, money and health don’t eat here! Marriott you need to sort this out as it’s not good enough!
Good starter of Mushroom toast. Impressed with the size of rump but asked for medium to well steak and paid a premium so was disappointed that it appeared to be undercooked, pretty fatty too. Told waitress but wasnt offered a replacement or money off the hefty price. Not many customers so service was OK. Finished with a cheese platter, grapes looked a bit sorrowful.
