When we went to the pub, it was so expected quiet with only a few locals, as expected for a Tuesday night. we were a table of 8 coming for a family meal no table was prepared for us, they said, sitting everywhere, which is good, but there were no tables for 8, so we had to move tables chairs ourselves then we had to go the bar to order drinks as no one came by. no menus had to ask for 20 minutes. drinks were slow and even understood with only one person behind the bar, but not when we were the only table in it. then there was even worse 1 hour between sitting starters coming after we ordered that he read the order back, but still missed one starter coming, all the others finished before missing one came dirty cutlery thrown in the ground as starter did not arrive polished in food covered remains watermark - no one checked on starts offered no plates for the release of camembert. the brot with suppe camembert was tesco hot boils we all had empty jars, which we then asked to be deleted and came after more drinks net. pie had parching paper under neath her still what we oh sorry came with pad and pencil and asked if we wanted pudding. we had not seen a menu. bill was not asked to get it on the table. no excuse, or how we thought that was eating. I then went to bar and explained problems and asked me to speak with manager, because I was not happy to whom he said there was nothing he could do. then went on phone to manager. we arrived around 19:20 clock and left around 10 clocks, in which 3 dirty tables around us remained dirty covered drinks. we have eaten many paintings with the family in the run of the years and we have been appalled with this experience that we will not come back. even deserves a star.
I write a review because I think the personal deserves a better treatment than what they receive from a group of customers today. we went for a meal for my birthday and for fathers day and the service was a little slow, but I understand most places fighting with personal problems at the moment (including where I work) so we were patient and eating was worth waiting. the group sat behind us was disgusting and rude and made a scene from everything. the poor waitresses were clearly very annoyed, and even though they had dealt with the group professionally and respectfully, they had clearly reached their breakpoint and I do not owe them. pat on the back for everything you do, wait in there.
We hired the conservatory at the Cross Keys for a naming ceremony for our babies and the staff could not have been more attentive. The location is beautiful and the room was perfect for what we wanted Karianne allowed us to go in the night before to set up/ decorate exactly how we liked, and as the room opened up onto the patio/ garden we were then able to use this as it was such a lovely day. They also provided the catering (we opted for a pizza buffet from the wood fired pizza oven) which was amazing, and much more reasonably priced compared to a lot of the quotes we’d received from other venues. I’d even forgotten that we had a vegan coming, but Karianne was more than accommodating and provided her with an additional meal free of charge! Thank you to the Cross Keys all of the staff for enabling us to hold the perfect event here!
We have just moved very near to there cross keys were greeted on our first day by Karianne, Nathan the landlady and landlord and Ryan. They were very welcoming and made sure we could get some food even though they’d stopped serving (which was lovely as we had nothing at the house. They also make little dog treat bags and sweets for kids which my dog loved! The cross keys has quickly become one of my favourite pubs with a good selection of food and drink I will continue to come here regularly. The staff really do go above and beyond and they also hold very good conversations highly highly recommend. Coming here has been an amazing welcome to Wanbrough! Thanks guys!
