Overall the food was delicious, however our table of 5 ordered the Mexicola set menu and there was nowhere near enough food to feed us. For $40 per head, the portion sizes were disappointingly small, and we were all left hungry and picked up food on the way back to the office. The service was also less than impressive, we were seated quickly and then waited at least 15 minutes before she came over to ask about drinks. She took the drinks order and walked away, not giving us a chance to order food. Someone came over another 10 minutes later with 3 of the drinks (all beers) and we had to ask her if we could get our food order taken, so they sent her back over. We had finished the first course and just received our corn when the last two drinks came out, one of them not being the correct order. Another incorrect drink and a few more courses later, we finally had all of our drinks. The rest of the lunch was quick, though disappointing with each dish being smaller than the last. The final disappointment was the dessert. The Churros came out cold and burnt, to the point of almost being inedible. The only thing that saved it was the dulce de leche drizzled over the top which stopped them from being too dry. Overall, we were expecting good things, especially from their set menu, however, Contrabandos did not deliver at all.
Great atmosphere and the staff were friendly. The food I would say was reasonable. Guacamole was the standout. If I went back it would be for drinks and a snack as opposed to dinner.
A trendy Latin tapas and taco restaurant playing old skill Rnb. Amazing food best Latin tapas I’ve had
We love Contrabando restaurant and recommend it to everyone at Sydney Conservatorium of Music. The best thing is not having to decide what to eat for express lunch, except for the final taco. We will be coming for many more lunches
