Contribuisci feedbackDefinitely loving this karaoke here, mixed with food and drinks!!!! Perfect to chill with friends !!!! Food was delicious.
The place feels like an industrial-size operation. The problem is, no-one seems to be supervising that the wheels are turning well. The service is not only impersonal, but also chaotic. It took me a good minutes to get a jug of water I ordered...first and was desperate for; I ended up using the Call Staff button to get it. My Takoyaki arrived lukewarm, which suggests that they must have been sitting on the kitchen counter for minutes waiting to be delivered to the table. Most other dishes were more prompt, but the start of the meal was certainly disappointing. The choice of sake wasn't particularly great, which seems strange for a place where many people must be coming for a good drink as well as a meal. Also, despite the web site advertising opening time until am, it turned out that the kitchen was closing at pm just as well I decided to come a little early; don't count on a late dinner at this place. Gyoza and sashimi were good; but overall, a mixed experience.
I used to visit Lantern by Wagaya at for delicious Japanese food which you can conveniently order from the screen, especially Japanese hot pots. When Lantern relocates the Suntower in George Street, I take my friends here after dinner for karaoke. The service is efficient...and professional. The karaoke room is neatly kempt. Reasonable pricing. The payment can be made at the end of the karaoke session. The only letdown is the smelly toilet, not something that I expect from a Japanese venue.
The lovely setting of Lantern by Wagaya feels very authentic with the intimate traditional seating and overhead lantern decorations. It offers a great lunch deal combination with free karaoke with spends over and the booths are great. It surprisingly has a vast menu with...a lot of different choices for both lunch and dinner. DISHES SAMPLED SEARED SALMON CREAM CHEESE ROLL A must try item if you're craving sushi and stopping by Lantern by Wagaya. The cream cheese is so tasty and melts alongside the seared salmon. it is definitely one of the best salmon sushi rolls I've ever tried. TAKOYAKI, TEMPURA DUMPLINGS The takoyaki and tempura were good, but not great. They tasted like pretty standard sushi train type dishes found at your typical casual japanese dining places. The dumplings definitely tasted homemade, fresh and was very savoury. LANTERN STRAWBERRY MOJITO The taste of alcohol is stronger than expected in this mojito, but I can really see how it's a special drink concoction of Lantern by Wagaya. It's one of the better mojitos I've tried and a hidden gem I didn't expect to be impressed by after dining here. Instagram: @sydneyfoodreviewer
We have been to this restaurant several times (we loved Wagaya down near the entertainment centre) so we were happy to find this one across from World Square. It can get Noisy as it is also a venue for Karaoke but if you can get...past that the food is great l, well priced and the service fast and efficient. My fussy daughter really loves it especially the easy order screens. But.....booking. There are several online options to book but even though you get a reservation confirmation it seems to mean nothing the only time we have successfully gone has been if it is last minute and we call directly and they happen to have a table. I have no confidence in their booking system any more which is really sad because it is noisy but great food. Good Luck you will enjoy it if you can get in.
