I love the Mad Hatter decor too! Also they have recently added the benefit of outside decking at the rear which creates a really nice outside space.
There's no other place like it in or around Tábua. Vegetarian food, some vegan, some gluten-free. Unlike just about every other establishment in town, it's heated in winter – so very cosy. Good for lunch – though everything is prepared fresh and there are few staff, so it can be a bit slow. The gluten-free brownie is a marvel. You'll also find a selection of Belgian and other beer.
I have been recently using the Jardim Magico Bistro in Tabua and find it a refreshing change to the usual eating place in Portugal, although I love Portugal I find the bars and eating places some what mediocre. The ambience in the bistro is very relaxing and that is enhanced by the lack of televisions a truly refreshing change. Table top games are an interesting alternative as is the general chit chat that goes on there Talking of refreshing, there drinks are varied and often healthy as are there foods, the ingredients of which are generally locally sourced and healthy.Isabel who runs the bistro with her partner Martin who have both lived in Portugal for many years and speak Portuguese, English and Dutch provide vegetarian foods and even vegan foods to order. If you are in the lovely area of Tabua I suggest you call in to the Bistro and enjoy a meal, snack or just a refreshing drink, you will be made most welcome.Ian

We were in Tabua for signing our new house documents, hungry and our first time in Tabua, luckily we chanced upon this place, the lovely belgian owner took a while but hand prepared us a lovely pitta burger for my wife, and a tofu one for me, we havent had such a nice salad in ages, really lovely food. the chef owner really cares about good food, nice to find a kindred spirit here in Portugal.
