Ordered a group of Chinese for a government company, eating half way thru our meals when I crunched on something hard, several of us (not just me) pulled bread clips out of our mouths. Cannot understand why there was several bread clips in the meals. I returned to Nan Ping and requested full payment. It was an embarrassment to the company. Thumbs down Nan Ping!
Our motel recommended so we booked and were a little taken aback when we entered a near empty restaurant with veneer wall panelling and a decidedly undersized fish tank for a time warp of this scale. The menu offered promise, with a good variety of options giving enough choice to appease our group. The subtlety of the sauces and quality of the ingredients brought us back to the present. The food was well in advance of many capital city restaurants charging much more.Hopefully it was just a slow night for a restaurant that deserves to be much busier, but then perhaps quietly understated in presence is just the way a very traditional Chinese restaurant in a country town should be. A terrible quote from my son "Nan Ping (sic) wrong with this place but many things right".
This place used to be very good. In the last 6 months, prices have gone up and the standards of both food and service have both gone down, dramatically. We have now had four bad experiences in a row with food from here and, despite the fact that the Nan Ping is the closest Chinese restaurant to where we live, I will now not bother returning. The first two of these four experiences were that the food was not up to previously quite good standards - tasteless, smaller quantities and greasy. We stayed away for a few weeks in case the usual chef was away on holidays or something and went back earlier this week. On that occasion, I went into the store and ordered $60 worth of take-away for two of us. The order included a king prawn dish. The order was taken and paid for and the staff member went in and out of the kitchen several times while the order was being prepared. There was no customers dining in at the time and they clearly were not busy. He didn't say there was any problem with any part of the order. When the order was handed to me, he informed me "We don't have any king prawns so I give you small prawns". The few prawns that were scattered through the dish were very small, rubbery and tasteless. Tonight I telephoned a small take-away order through - a steamed entree and some combination soups - and was told it would be at least 30 maybe 40 minutes. I asked "Is it possible to get it a bit more quickly than that? My partner is diabetic and ...." The woman taking the call, who has always been quite abrupt with her customer service, did not allow me to even finish my sentence. She cut me off saying "No, not my problem" and hung up the phone on me!! I agree our predicament was not her problem (typically we are better organised with meal timing). However, there was simply no need to be so rude as to cut me off and then hang up on me. We won't be back.
Prompt, delightful staff and great food thank-you. Nothing can complain about. Easy to get a park and for Chinese food was fully satisfied. Love Tamworth shops and on the wish list to return again when visit Australia.
