The food was acceptable and fine to eat, but what really stood out to me was that they were open on Thanksgiving, which is a big plus. Would I return on a typical day? Probably not. But I do appreciate their service. Thank you!
I spent three weeks at Don Fernando while working on a fire job and ended up dining here almost every night. I think I've tried just about everything on the menu! The highlights for me were the sopapillas, the smashed steak burrito, the fish and chips, the fried stuffed jalapeños, the salads (especially Rache's), and the nachos. The burger was consistently a bit overcooked (I had it three times), and the prices are somewhat high, but overall, it's quite good for the Hotel Essen. The service was always friendly, and the restaurant had a pleasant atmosphere, even though only the bar area was open during my stay, not the entire seating area.
Honestly, I'm disappointed. The service was only average, and the food wasn't worth it. At $28 per plate, you'll end up leaving both hungry and out of pocket. I wouldn't recommend going.
The menu may be limited, but everything they offer is prepared to perfection! Food: 5/5
It was a great way to start our time in Taos. A nice New Mexico style breakfast!
