Taralga Hotel Restaurant

Good food. Good service. Great area. Meal size was good and the hot bits eere hot and the cold bits cold. The beer was good too.

Four of us (two couples) drove up from Canberra. The pub is pleasant without being great. We had 2 t-bones ($25 each), a chicken schnitzel and a spaghetti bolognese (under $20 each). The servings were large. The food was OK but not great. The pub looks very nice from the outside, and was OK inside. All in all, a pleasant outing but no one of the better country pubs. It has just been sold, so it may change in the near future. We enjoyed the outing but not on the list for a return visit. Would recommend for a one-off.

Taralga is an attractive little town with some of the original buildings still standing. Well worth a stop on your way to (or from) somewhere else. The hotel is a typical small town bar, which serves good home-cooking. My lamb shanks were tender and tasty. My husband's steak was cooked exactly as he had asked for it, and was big enough to serve 2/

My husband and I stopped off for lunch at this pub en route to the Jenolan Caves. It was our first visit on a Sunday. The hotel was busy with locals and visitors. I had a hamburger that was a cut above the average served on a panne roll with hand cut chips. Mike enjoyed more excellent (local) lamb cutlets. The staff were friendly. The food served promptly. The atmosphere was welcoming. Taralga claims to be a township with its history built in stone. The hotel dates from 1876, but has modern renovations while retaining its historical features. Enjoy! It is only a short drive from Canberra or Yass.

The food isn't high quality gourmet, but satisfying and reliable. I had the salt and pepper squid which they gave me with mashed potato (which I asked for) and salad. Nice to sit outside under cover or not. A reliable stopover between Canberra and Lithgow.
