The staff here is very friendly. Despite it being Sunday and quite busy, the wait wasn’t too bad. There are plenty of parking spaces in the back when the front is full. The menu has so many great options that it can be tough to choose, especially for first-time visitors! While coffee refills are frequent, our food took a while to arrive. When it did come, though the food tasted great, it was either cold or only slightly warm. The biscuits and gravy and the country ham were excellent choices. The cinnamon bread pancakes and regular pancakes would have been fantastic if they had been served hot or at least warm. I definitely plan to return to Mary’s, as they are a local favorite, and I hope to experience faster service next time so that I can update my review.
Breakfast was okay. Maybe I ordered the wrong breakfast. The waitress was very friendly. My simple pancake had a strong cinnamon taste that was thrown away from my pallet, but my eggs and hokefries were okay. My bf ordered a chicken biscuit and he said it was delicious as I said, maybe I ordered the wrong breakfast :
We were often here, mostly for breakfast. We went last night for the special chicken. That was our second time on Thursday for the special chicken. Our first wasn't good either. A big guy said we should have been sitting somewhere to sit in the back room. After 10 minutes waiting for a server, menu 's and drink, finally came the big guy and asked if someone was waiting for us, I said no and he said he would be right back. I ordered two special chicken dinners, woman had French fries and maize nuggets, I had potatoes, gravy and green beans. Again, the chicken was fine. Greasy roasted chicken with bread, as last time. Cake potatoes and canned beef engraving. Green beans from the can that have most places. The French fries and cornuggets were good. For all the advertisements about home cooking and all food prices on your menu I can't believe you serve imitation food. Here's the worst part. We're here at 3:00. We'll eat at 6:00. A few sat next to us and the waitress came with menus and said they were sold out of the chicken. That's at 6:00. The couple said no thanks, rose and went. This happened three more times before we finished dinner. IF we will ever come back to breakfast or dessert.
However, my main issue is that there was no mention on the menu or at the register that there would be an additional fee for using a credit card. Charging such a fee without informing customers first is illegal. When I raised my concern with the cashier, she claimed that "every business does this," which is simply not true. Reputable businesses typically incorporate such costs into their pricing. I plan to report this violation to Visa and have already disputed this charge with my bank. It's very wrong to treat customers this way, and I will never return to this establishment. This feels like a scam, and I demand a refund for my expenses. I have taken photos of the front door and the menu to support my claims. Dishonest practices like this will not lead to success in the restaurant industry.
