I am Swedish Cuban and Japanese. My dad lived in Cuba for a while. I am the great granddaughter of a Cuban dictator. But I look more like Swedish. My adopted son is Puerto Rican and I know his family and they taught me to cook. The food is authentic and tasty. I live in NYC. Not sure if we will be back because of the long distance to travel. But we certainly will if we are ever in the area again!
Carne guisada and yellow rice are the best!!! The empanadas are very fresh and delicious!!
This time, we enjoyed Arroz con Pollo (rice with chicken and red beans), empanadas (our favorites are the beef and cheese, chicken and cheese, as well as the beef or cheese), Alcapurria (a tasty fritter filled with yuca and ground beef), and Chicharrón de Cerdo (fried pork cracklings served with rice and gandules). Everything was delicious, fresh, and moist! It was our first time trying Alcapurria, and I wish we had ordered several instead of just one! Unfortunately, I couldn’t take a picture because we devoured it in the car—it smelled amazing and tasted even better! We will definitely be returning to Mis Raices for more of their “yummy in the tummy” food!
The best ropa vieja I’ve ever had! The pork chops were fantastic as well. The plantain chips served with the mayo-garlic cilantro sauce were delicious! Plus, the white rice was cooked to perfection. The owners and their family were incredibly kind and welcoming. Excellent job! I would definitely return when I'm in the area.
