It was going to be a long walk in crappy weather, so we opted to catch a taxi. What an experience that was; the very slowest the cab driver ran a stop sign was probably around 35 mph. Praise the lord, we made it without a crash! The meal was awesome, we both chose the three enchilada plate, mt friend had three cheese enchiladas and a Coke, I had the same plate, but had one cheese enchilada, one chicken enchilada, and one cricket enchilada. Not a typo there, it was a very tasty enchilada stuffed with crickets. They were either fried of broiled, or baked; I'm not sure how they were prepared. Yes, I initially had more than a little reticence, but am happy I made that choice. That with some hot apple tea made for a great lunch.
Very good taste ???? Another nice place in tecate Quesadillas whit corn blue, very nice Excellent service
Muy buen sason y comida diferente, con sabores y platillos nativos. Very good taste and different food, with native flavors and dishes.
A disappointment - choose wisely - NOT the "Mexican" cuisine you may be expecting. The reviews for this restaurant are overwhelmingly positive, and this review is rated two stars in part to give some balance to the overwhelmingly five star reviews already posted. Due to those numerous five star reviews, we went there with great expectations. But we ended up disappointed, in good part because we did not understand this restaurant. It is vital to understand that this is a restaurant focusing on pre-Hispanic (indigenous) food, not the traditional "Mexican" food that gringos expect and may be looking for. To be fair, the restaurant is very clean, and the service is exceptionally friendly. Again, on the positive side, I did have the opportunity to eat a taco featuring crickets as the primary "meat". (For the record, the cricket taco was "OK", but I am not likely to order cricket tacos in the future.) But the (very limited) menu is not the typical tacos, quesadillas, beans, seafood, etc. which a North American visitor may be expecting. In addition, the restaurant is located in an unattractive part of Tecate, far from the pleasant walking area near the central plaza. Credit cards not accepted; US dollars accepted.
Another great restaurant in Tecate. With two friends, we all ordered different dishes and shared. I don't think you could find the combinations of food and drink on the menu in any other place in Mexico. The emphasis is on pre-Hispanic food and drinks.Great and friendly service.I'll be back soon.
