A huge disappointment. We went once before, and we thought it was good. This time, we were very disappointed. The food was so unexciting! Such a shame! What went wrong? And then to add a £16 cover charge! The Cheese mouse mille-feuille was quite frankly ridiculous. A few blobs of cheese, three rectangles of short crust pasty, some minute pickled onions and pineapple chunks, it was very bland, very expensive. The trout starter was dull too. Cod and squid ink risotto with some pickled fennel wasnt in any way exciting. The pork filet in in mustard cream sauce was good, but nothing special, it is very first term catering college food! Deserts, again nothing special! Wont be going back!
No grumbles about this restaurant. Excellent service, excellent choice of food and wine in excellent surroundings.
It was purely by luck that we came across this gem of a place... I simply didn't want to cook and my hubby found it in trip advisor . We managed getting a booking for 12.30pm today. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed with a smile. As soon as we looked at the menu we knew we were in safe hands. Chefs clearly understanding and respecting ingredients. We went for. 2 course meal. Hubby had the starter which was a delicious blue cheese mousse, then both had the chicken breast which was cooked as for the vegetable to perfection. Plenty of vegetables too. No need to add any condiments which for us means excellence in the kitchen! The chocolate marquise was to die for too.... we will definitively be back !
While catching up with friends who live in Devon they suggested lunch at The Rock an Inn close to them that they have used a few times. What a great choice. We got a very warm welcome to this very interesting Inn with lots of character. The food was superb and probably the best roast beef I have had.The service was friendly, attentive but not rushed.A lovely experience, not cheap at about £30 for 2 courses so with a drink we paid £75 per couple but worth every penny and we will be back on our next trip to Devon.
