I 've been around the World, never had better Donuts than here. It 's been 51 years since I walked thru those doors at Shipley Donuts in Terrell, Texas. I was still a boy of (14). I 'm 65 years old now.The owner was Wayne Dry. I walked in and asked if he needed a cleaning boy (after-school work program) Wayne said he already had one. I looked around then told him I could do it better and after one week if I didn 't do it better then he had me for a week "for-free.I graduated high school working here. Never had a better boss than Wayne Dry. We had a great team working there…. Ida May, EL Wheeler her husband Bill, Joe at the ice-cream counter and his wife Charlene. Joe gave me a nickname, and 51 years later people still call me "Jody. I still remember my favorite customers… Lorraine Ellis, Bill Whitt, and all the rest. I have been overseas and I 've seen the World, crossed the Oceans, been to every state in The United States, stood in the Halls of Congress and visited the White House, lived in Alaska, lived in Hawaii for several years, "Oahu, Maui, Molokai visited the other Islands. Even so, I had one of the best times of my life working at Shipley 's Donuts, I just didn 't know it at the time…. I wish I could go back in time and relive those days… I wish !
The glazed donuts are great, I give them a 8/10. Sadly, this location has a foul smell inside the small unkept lobby. I figured it was the bathroom but upon visiting a couple weeks later the same nasty smell, like a poop smell or similar. I don’t know what’s up with that but I can’t go back because of it. This place is very busy, usually a line and takes about 15 minutes to get through.
Got there about 9:00 am; disappointed ran out of donuts. Bought cinnamon rolls, but they were not good. Their colachis were a disappointment as well; all white bread and tiny weiners, very little cheese.
I have been going here since I was a baby. This place...it's magical. The best donuts you will ever have in your entire life. Every time I pop back in for some and get some chocolate milk with my donut holes and get one of their themed donuts....it hasn't changed. I still remember the Halloween themed donut I got as a kid with my Lala and Thriller by the legend Michael Jackson playing on the radio. I had a great day at school that day. I still remember the interior and the heimlich instructional sign on the wall with the padded high chair my dad would use to put my sister in when we'd go in if we had the time too. Who else?
