I've been dining at Angelina since it first opened in a strip mall in The Colony, and I've always enjoyed the food. If it weren't good, they wouldn't have expanded to more locations. I believe it's very good Tex-Mex, and I've tried many Tex-Mex restaurants in the Dallas area.
I lived in The Colony for 17 years, and Angelina's has always been my favorite restaurant. Now I'm in Tucson, Arizona, attending the University of Arizona. We have quite a few fantastic Mexican restaurants here, along with some decent Tex-Mex places. The previous comment is spot on: there’s a significant difference between Tex-Mex and authentic Mexican cuisine. While I appreciate both and have found many great restaurants here, none compare to Angelina's, and none can offer the beautiful lake view. I can't wait to return to The Colony so I can enjoy Angelina's every week again!
The staff here seems to lack an understanding of authentic Mexican cuisine. I ordered red enchiladas, but the sauce tasted more like salsa than true red chile sauce. My husband had a relleno, and he found it unsatisfactory as well. Having grown up in New Mexico and spent my whole life enjoying and cooking excellent Mexican food, I was completely disappointed!
