Down South Kitchen Bakery - The Colony

Amazing eating! really big portions. really good food. no complaint about anything. the atmosphere was nice, friendly. the veranda was breezy with swing chairs. I love this place every time I am in dallas, I will make sure I go to colony in this restaurant.

This was our first visit and we were not super excited by the initial greeting when we entered How many . Our party was sat, the place had about 4 tables when we came in. I noticed 4 staff members in the front of the house. No clue how many were in the back. So, from the start I thought I made a mistake. The server took our order and drinks. We had to ask for silverware and straws for our drinks, again not holding hope that this was going to be great. Pricing for food was a bit higher for comfort food. So I'm thinking this is going to be bad... Nothing was further from this. The corn bread and biscuits came out and they were fresh and warm, the apps came out very timely and they were great. The food was amazing. I think the day was just off on the front of the house but the kitchen made up for everything. I do hope that this was an off day for the server staff. And yes, we took care of the staff. We will be back again and will update this review as this place is truly a great stop for lunch and dinner.

The location is so perfect! I happened to see it when I was on 121. Ambience: Really cute decor, clean look. The service was great too. I went for brunch. Food: I was impressed that they served biscuits as soon as we got there! They were so good! I got the fried chicken with mac cheese and substituted the green beans for fried okra. The chicken was a good portion and I love the sauce! It's been so long since I had fried okra and it was a good portion. The entire meal was really filling! My friend got the cheese sandwich with parmesan fries and it was good too! Definitely check it out before it gets really crowded when everyone finds out about it!

Great atmosphere! Very good food! Good service! I came with 20 people so we showed grace to work through our process! The servers did GREAT!! I enjoyed my visit! It was my first time there and my birthday breakfast! Excellent choice!

Decent food. Horrible service. We were served biscuits and cornbread when we were sat which were awesome . We ordered 3 waters, a coffee and a chocolate milk for our son. Our water came after about 5 7 minutes of ordering our food there were plenty of tables open and available servers . We generally go through water quickly and I asked our waitress to bring 2 more glasses so that we wouldn't be waiting or cause multiple trips. I got treated rudely for asking as if my request was inconvenient. She came back with water and a carafe. Our small booth stacked up with menus, our bread basket and small plates that weren't cleared even though we neatly placed them at the edge of the table to make more space. I never received the box that I requested for my half eaten meal. Unfortunately our waitress was not attentive or warm at all and it put an overall bad vibe on our visit.
