My go-to place for Chinese food. Been going here since the the late 80s.
I recently ordered Chinese takeout from Chan's in Dundas, and unfortunately, my experience was lackluster. Despite its long history of operation, it seems that the food quality has declined since the original owner, Danny Chan, sold the restaurant. I have fond memories of dining in the restaurant as a teenager with my family in the 1980s, when the food was great and the dining room was open for table service. However, due to the pandemic, the restaurant only offers food for takeout now. While some aspects of the meal were decent, such as the egg rolls, which were stuffed with bean sprouts and tasted good, they seemed much smaller than I remembered. The dry garlic spareribs, on the other hand, were gristly, chewy, and some were quite dry, making them difficult to enjoy. The almond soo guy, which is a type of breaded and deep-fried chicken dish, was also disappointing, as it came with no almonds and a lot of breading. To top it off, the beef chow mien that I ordered was missing from the takeout bag, which was frustrating. Overall, my experience at Chan's was disappointing, especially considering my past positive experiences with the restaurant. The service is fine, but I hope that they can improve their food quality and get the dining room updated and open again in the future. No doubt running a long running restaurant comes with many challenges made more difficult by measuring up to its past glory. I have hope for Chan’s.Parking: It’s in a small strip plaza, so parking is no problem
Some of the worst Chinese food I’ve had, rice tasted burnt, smallest chicken balls I’ve ever seen and they were cool dry/hard, I won’t be ordering again
The food was amazing and the delivery driver was very kind. They were so quick as well, even after warning us it would be an hour
