From the drago oysters to the seafood chowder and the short rib OMG! Also a very special thank you to Camden for making my friend’s first trip to Millie’s a great experience. Cam was patient, funny and attentive throughout our entire visit. Give him a raise! I come once a month but I know my friend will be back soon! Millie’s is a home run every time! Go!!!
Delicious fresh food! The atmosphere was cheerful and lively, they even had the Astros game on! Can't wait to come back.
We dined here for dinner during Houston Restaurant Weeks (HRW). The menu choices were great and the food was soooo good. It was a $39 menu but it felt like a $55 menu. Everybody was saying how good it was the whole time. The sauces were full of flavor and not too spicy or salty or just full of butter. They complimented the dishes perfectly. Just thinking about it makes me want to go there tonight again for dinner. The place has outdoor and indoor seating. Though right now with it being so hot most everybody wanted indoor and it was a bit of a wait to find an open table during rush hour dinner on Saturday night. Normally it's not a problem. The hush puppies were a bit underwhelming though still good. The New Oreleans BBQ shrimp and crab appetizer was a huge hit. Definitely worth the extra $5 because of the taste but it was also very large. And I definitely recommend their carrot cake. It wasn't on the HRW menu but totally worth the add on. The fish was pan seared and still very moist. The surf and turf was tender and perfectly pink in the middle, and I'd love to know how to make that sauce, it was so good with the beef.Parking: They have valet parking or you can park for free down the street or in the neighboring lot. Wasn't a problem or much of a walk.
The food here is great, BUT, the Service is not. My wife and several other ladies we were with asked for another round of drinks and the female bartender refused to serve them. As an observer I found her decision to be completely unfounded. I personally thought she was discriminating against them for some reason. We left and will never return.
I really did enjoy the chicken fried steak though I did have two thoughts.1. Why use an expensive akaushi beef when you are going to deep fry it and cover it with a pork sausage gravy flavor profile? Just use and tenderize a cheaper cut of beef, trimmed of fat and gristle. 2. If you’re gonna stick with akaushi, do a more thorough job of trimming the fat and gristle?I also got the gumbo and it was good enough, though there was a flavor “feel” of canned soup. I know they didn’t use canned soup but that is the flavor I got. It isn’t a spectacular gumbo like, say, Viola and Agnes on NASA Road 1, but it was good enough, though as a gumbo aficionado, I wouldn’t order it again nor recommend it to anyone who is really passionate about gumbo. The poboy that my dining partner had was good. Big shrimp. Good batter. Acceptable bread. The chocolate cake was really enjoyed. I remarked that I would have been proud to claim this if I had made it.It is a cool looking venue. Aesthetically so pleasing.
