This is our 3rd visit now in the last year and once again the food was faultless. We went on a Wednesday night for my wife’s birthday, the place was very busy (Golden Mile was hosting a Birthday Party) but there was no delay to service whatsoever. The quality of the food met our expectations just like the other 2 visits. Very big portions that are priced accordingly and not expensive for the Quality or the quantity. The staff were very friendly. Great night, would definitely recommend and we will be back. See pictures of our food. Starters were three Piggy’s and the cod cakes, steak ale pie and chicken supreme then lemon drizzle cake to share. Lovely
Thankyou to Simon and the rest of the staff made us feel welcome .friendly people who can do their job well the meal was delicious the garlic mushroom sauce was really nice will defiantly be calling there again soon exellent all round.
We went to the Golden Inn for a family birthday meal, six adults and one toddler. The inn has been renovated to a high standard; it's been modernised whilst still retaining period features. The bar area is very cosy with the burning log fire. The inn is children friendly with a wooden climbing frame outside and a selection of children friendly meals. The food was delicious, starters arrived quickly; the popcorn cockles and baked cambert were exceptional. The mains were exquisite with loin of pork, steak and pork and sage, apple pie in gravy. My husband and I also stayed the night in the tastefully decorated, spotless and comfortable double room. Staff and Owners Liz and Matthew are very friendly and are very accommodating. We also had a bottle of champagne on the house due to the special birthday. The continental breakfast in the morning was lovely and very filling. We will definitely be visiting again!
It was some 7 weeks ago that this restaurant was reviewed with 5* and after revisiting on 27th December 2017 I cannot believe that I was in the same establishment. The food was simply awfull. There was a limited menu choice which was not seasonal but easy to prepare dishes which suggests the normal chef was not in attendance. In addition to the limited menu a number of items were unavailable. Three of our party had the only fish dish which was haddock in batter, the portion size was half of what I had had before, there was more batter than fish and the fish looked far from fresh. Another of our party had a chicken ceaser salad which was the only dish they could eat, the chicken was tasteless, the gem lettuce used was limp outside leaves, there were a substantial no of anchovies in the dish with the whole being smothered in what should have been a Ceaser sauce making the dish very salty and unappetising. We also had Fillet steak the sirloin was unavailable) which was supposed to be cooked medium rare but came just about well done. The chips were a further dissapointment, we are not sure whether they were twice or three times cooked, but whatever they were a poor example of a chip. They were clearly over cooked on the outside and undercooked in the centre and had a taste of being cooked in a larger than normal quantity where the cooking oil does not reach a high enough temperature to cook and crisp. The mark of a well run establishment is to resolve issues on the spot, but despite advising the waiting staff of our disappointment it went no further and we were presented with the bill. It takes a long time and effort to build a reputation but moments to destroy one and, whilst I generally only review in a positive way on this occasion when visiting with friends that had travelled a long way there was no alternative. Needless to say, in my previous review when I suggested other restaurants should watch out on this visit they have nothing to worry about. It would take something special for us to return.
