On their regular evenings, the auberge offers a nice piece of meat roasted in front of an open fire. Although additional choices are there, they are not necessary as the meat is of excellent quality, and the preparation in the restaurant room provides a very nice (and warm) atmosphere.Without hesitation you can take their wine recommendation.
We were a party of eight (mainly adults but including a ten year old girl) booked in for the special whole pig roast night. This is a favourite restaurant whenever we visit this part of France. Pascal is a great host and the roast is all presented with a great sense of theatre, there are also second helpings for the those that want more. Pascal is great at recommending wine if you struggle with the choice, you can tell him your price range, what you like and he will choose an appropriate wine or wines. The whole roast pig is brought round the tables before being carved. Pascal speaks excellent English having worked for many years in Britain and they also have menus in English. If you are in the area it is worth a visit.
This was our second visit to Auberge de Thenay & it's just as good as last time. We had a very warm welcome from our anglophile host & a lovely 5 course meal with high quality unfussy cooking. Once again we had the local beef spit roasted on an open fire & it was fabulous.
Great fun evening in this unique restaurant. Roast meats are cooked in front of the fire on the roasting jack which is great to see. The owner is very welcoming and speaks very good English. The food was all excellent as was the service. Well worth a visit
