I want to explain both my love and distaste for the restaurant in two parts. For one thing, when you dine in the ramen is plentiful and the ingredients are far from sparse within a dish. Secondly, when I 've ordered for pickup via Doordash/Grubhub on 3 separate occasions the dish is non representative of the actual meal that I would get. On all of those accounts the meal was extremely oily, undercooked, or overcooked and had to be thrown out for the most part.On the other hand, when you dine in, the dishes taste great and look exactly like what would be pictured in the online ordering app. The staff is very attentive and the restaurant is very clean for being a shotgun hallway/bar style restaurant. I 'm not sure if the restaurant is using stock photos but it is very deceiving for online ordering and I highly recommend dining in.In my most recent order I decided to splurge on some calamari. I normally have eaten calamari in the Bay Area so I assumed to be ordering something similar to little circular 'O ' shaped pieces. Instead, I got the legs, which aren 't too bad if they are cooked properly in this case, they weren 't. They smelled horrible, like day old meat out of the freezer, and they were also so oily that I had to pat them down with a napkin. I did try to save them and pop them into the oven but to no avail. When octopus or squid is overcooked, they become rubbery and impossible to chew. I know a thing or two about cooking these items and I am curious to know if they were not soaked in vinegar to tenderize them and maybe that 's why they were so hard. Either way, it was a waste of $10 and I regret not inquiring about a refund.Being someone who doesn 't normally go out for dinner and someone that was once a sous chef, I am very disappointed in Mugen. I will surely update my review when next I dine there and hopefully it will be a positive experience. I know that everyone there works hard and it 's easy to make cooking mistakes.*see photo for reference to the calamari (it 's unlike any calamari I 've ever seen or had)
Best noodles, try the Birria Ramen ! Best Birria I ever had, will be back for more soon. Highly recommended. Fast and hot.
Fun place to slurp ramen on a rainy day sitting at the counter. It felt like a ramen bar in Japan! I really liked the broth in the Tori Paitan Ramen! I also like the thicker Ramen noodles and the tender pieces of grilled chicken. My neighbor ordered a Katsu curry that looked amazing! I am excited to return to try this dish as well as the curry ramen.
They have a new special: Butakakuni ramen with braised pork. It's absolutely delicious, it melts in your mouth. One of the best ramen I've had. Ever.Food: 5/5
The restaurant has limited bar seating and a few outdoor tables. The food was delicious. We tried the Katsu Kare, Curry Ramen, and Tori Paitan. The first two dishes were fantastic, especially the Katsu Kare. The third dish was just okay. The service was excellent. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.
