Sukhothai Timaru

We dined here on our first evening in New Zealand, and as vegetarians, we were thrilled with the delicious fried rice and curries! The prices are quite reasonable, and the portions are very generous. The restaurant efficiently served a steady stream of customers. The staff were incredibly friendly and even let us retrieve our forgotten wallet without any trouble. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Timaru!

During a winter trip to New Zealand, I stopped in Timaru for lunch on my way back to Christchurch and discovered this gem of a restaurant. Every main dish on the menu is priced at $15 and comes with a complimentary tom yum soup, which was a delightful touch on a chilly day. The soup was served promptly while we were still deciding on our orders, which featured popular Thai dishes like Green Curry (with chicken, pork, or beef) and Pad Thai. The staff also asked us how spicy we wanted our meals. The service was quick, and our meals for a party of nine arrived in no time. The flavors were fairly authentic, with minor adjustments made to accommodate local ingredients and preferences. While some dishes leaned towards being a bit salty, my green curry was perfect.

We ordered the lunch special which included complimentary soup. The Pad Thai was excellent, and the restaurant has a really cozy atmosphere for dining.

This was a fantastic find! The authentic Thai flavors were exactly what I love. My Pad Thai was outstanding, and we also enjoyed a delicious lunch soup. All of this for just $22! I will definitely return if I'm ever in the area again.

The food here is very tasty! The staff member, Lilly, is incredibly friendly and patient when explaining the menu options. Every dish she recommended was excellent: I especially loved the pineapple fried rice, roast pork with rice, Pad Krapow, tom yum kung, crispy pork with manuka honey, and deep-fried sun-dried pork.
