Managed by a very attentive family, kind as could not be, wanting to please you in everything they do. Regarding the food, which is what we are going to, I cannot lower the level of praise either. They serve you what is there. Don't ask for a letter. Seasonal products (not long for the arbeyos... that is, the peas . In our case, and after a starter of sausages that were breathtaking (chorizo, sausage, loin , one of the best Asturian pots I've eaten in my life, along with the one my wife makes . Abundant collard greens, as it should be. Broth at its right point. Neither very liquid nor thick, the latter more typical of mountain stew. And the compango..... What am I going to tell you! Spectacular. Next, breaded jerky. Served with a natural tomato salad. I had never tasted it like this, and I will never be able to forget it. Very, very rich. All a success. For dessert, a source of rice pudding that reminded me of the one of a lifetime. To the one that was made with the milk robes, and that makes it remain in a point of magnificent thickness, and tasty as could not be. Perfect burned. And finally, a coffee at the tables outside, while we had a good conversation with the owner and enjoyed a magnificent landscape. I think there is no need to say more, right?
It is a village bar-shop that we must thank for being here and remaining. These small businesses have to face some expenses, which with respect to the meager income make them unfeasible, in many of these cases the expenses should be in accordance with the income, it is impossible to face the payment of social security, the ibi, the vats, the personal income tax , and other formalities , and try to open early and spend 14 or 16 hours there at the service or disposal of the potential client.
Family restaurant. Authentic food, all homemade. We thought we cannot eat all, but it is so good, and in fact not heavy. I would definitely recommend this place.
Puentecastro is the village where my mother-in-law was born. When we visited from Australia, of course, we had to eat at Casa Alonso. For a visitor this is an authentic experience of food grown and cooked in a village in Asturias. The family have operated Casa Alonso for generations and are very friendly and welcoming. The valley is green and lush with majestic hills. Look for the cows impossibly high up at near the mountain tops. There are some walking tracks to help work off your lunch. The coffee is good too.
