Unloading and reloading is flawless. Nice lounge area, gift shop. Stayed on the outside cause we had our pet. Really nice experience. Make sure you bring a jacket , can't go back to vehicle once moving or it's a gift shop visit for you too :) . Pricing is very reasonable. Thank you to the crew.
My visit to the island would have remained incomplete if I had not taken the ferry back to Tobermory. Its about 1 1/2 hour ride and I spent most of the time on the upper deck. Its worth the money spent.
Organized and clean, the ferry was a great way to travel to Manitoulin Island. Although not inexpensive it was a fun experience. Staff was pleasant. Breakfast was good - good time to sit and have a breakfast by a window (lovely scenery)! while travelling to Manitoulin, this way we were ready to explore the minute we got off the ferry - we didn't have to search for a breakfast place. I would recommend!
Book ahead! We were on a motorcycle and booked 10 days before our trip, and couldn't get the time slot I had hoped for. We had to take the 8:00pm slot and it ended up being a great experience. Motorcycles board the ferry first and you have plenty of time to tie down and secure the bike. Ropes are available. We sat at the front of the ferry and watched the sun set. Arriving in South Baymouth at 9:45pm, departing the ferry is very fast and smooth. I was concerned about deer when travelling along Hwy 6 that late at night but there was so much traffic coming off the ferry all at once, everything was fine! It is quite expensive $(70 for motorcycle with a trailer and 2 adults) but it is a nice break from riding all day and is better than going around Georgian Bay to get to Manitoulin Island. We booked the ferry for our return a week later, also. That trip was a morning crossing and was great also.
After visiting Manitoulin Island for a few days and rather then retrace our drive to Southern Ontario via Sudbury and the 400 Hwy we decided to take the ferry to Tobermory and travel down the Bruce Peninsula. They recommended that we make reservations for the ferry which we did a few days before and that made things much easier when we arrived to board. The trip across was smooth and the food in their cafeteria was very good with a good variety of eating options. Prices were typical of such ventures dealing with tourists. A bit on the pricey side but what the heck. Not much to see sailing across but the one hour and forty five minute crossing went by quickly. The boarding process went smoothly and quickly but the disembarking was lengthy as we all sat in our vehicles for at least 20 minutes maybe longer. A couple of people in their cars decided they wanted air conditioning so started their vehicles and soon the lower level of the poorly ventilated and crowded parking spaces became smelly with exhaust fumes. Not nice. Staff needed to instruct passengers to refrain from engine idle while waiting, but that did not happen. That was the only downside to the trip. The cast was reasonable. For us, two seniors with our SUV cast 74.00 dollars one way. Worth taking the trip at least once for the experience. Would we do it again, NOPE !
