Long story but cancelled table as kids would t go. Ended up leaving them at the arcades and, despite being late in the evening, the manager AJ kept the kitchen open and served us a beautiful fish dinner. Perfect service and great food. Avoid the rest and go to the best!
Last night, we visited Rockfish Torquay after having to change our plans from going to the Brixham location due to the weather. We started with delicious oysters and whitebait, both of which met our high expectations from Rockfish. For our main courses, we enjoyed the catch of the day, which included Dover sole and brill fillet, as well as the battered Brixham hake. All of the dishes were excellent and came with unlimited chips. We also ordered mushy peas and jalapeno tartare sauce on the side. Despite being fairly quiet, Rockfish still had a pleasant atmosphere, and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drinks.
This restaurant faces the Marina so ideal for getting into the mood for eating freshly caught fish. The reception we received from the waiting staff was first class and the premises appeared clean. The menu is centred around fish and on the evening of our visit there was plenty of choice. Fish like Dover Sole and Monkfish are expensive (almost £40 per portion) and are not available every day. We chose Norwegian Rockfish and Hake which are about half that price and appear on the menu as standard fare. It was nice to taste fish of a different flavour to Cod and Haddock but, to be truthful, I could find nothing exceptional in the fish that we chose (hake was better than rockfish). The chips (apparently limitless) were well presented in a small pewter bucket which kept them warm. This restaurant is certainly worth the occasional visit as a change from other fish and chip restaurants but do note that the rather small portions here make for a more expensive meal. Perhaps I’ve got so used to Cod that I fail to appreciate the more delicate flavours that are on offer here.
Great food, great service. Dog friendly too. Would return. Dessert was a bit small underwhelming but otherwise great night out.
