We shared a sushi pizza always a favourite and nicely made. The spicy salmon roll was good, but could have used a bit more heat. The sashimi was also good. Overall, they took good care of us and were efficient at bringing the bill at the end of our dinner. We’ll go back!
This was definitely the most fun I’ve had in a sushi restaurant in recent memory! Fune Japanese Restaurant is currently the only Japanese restaurant in Toronto that offers “conveyor belt” sushi. What’s more, their conveyor belt sushi is even more unique than the regular ones on a track because these were boats of sushi floating on water around a sushi bar!
The restaurant offers carefully crafted dishes in a sophisticated atmosphere at prices that are surprisingly affordable. One of the standout features is the rotating conveyor belt that showcases a variety of sushi, sashimi, and maki dishes – a concept not commonly seen in Toronto's downtown area. This unique display provides a great opportunity to try different and interesting dishes beyond the typical California rolls or salmon sushi. I particularly enjoyed their scallop maki topped with roe, which was a delicious combination of creamy and salty flavors. The food is consistently fresh and prepared with care. It can get quite busy during lunch hours, so it's recommended to make reservations in advance.
Went last night, booked two seats at the boats and the experience was fantastic. My sushi lover boyfriend like each of the six plates he tried. They keep the plates on the boats very fresh and it's such a fun yet relaxing dimmed atmosphere. Was worth the $40 price tag at least every once in awhile. Staff is very nice too.
Make sure to order the Chawanmushi from the appetizer menu. However, it is best to steer clear of the deep fried options like Tempura and Pork Katsu Don/Udon/Soba.
